Fits Panasonic 5020 and 5020-C emergency lighting units, replacing OEM part 90703801.
3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers full capacity for 24-hour charge cycles on standard trickle chargers.
Connector slides into the battery slot vertically with no polarity reversal risk — contact pins face the charge circuit.
We bench tested this cell on a Panasonic 5020 fitting; the charge controller accepted the new BMS within two hours and showed green status by hour four.
Perform a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration — this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pansan 5020 / 5020-C — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (90703801)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH cell that replaces OEM part 90703801 in Panasonic emergency lighting units. It fits the 5020 and 5020-C fittings — the units mounted in commercial corridors, stairwells, and exit routes. Swapping this cell restores the fitting's ability to hold a charge and illuminate during mains failure.

  • 5020 and 5020-C compatibility: Both models share the same charge controller circuit, connector orientation, and voltage rail. The BMS in these fittings floats at 3.6V nominal, so a mismatched cell chemistry or voltage will trigger a permanent fault LED — this Ni-MH cell matches that spec exactly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a simulated mains-failure draw. The BMS accepted the cell without fault, the charge indicator moved to green within the expected window, and the cell held voltage under load without dropout.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load under real conditions and lets the charge controller register the new cell before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after fitting the new cell

The charge controller in the 5020 series uses a float voltage window to confirm a healthy cell is connected. A new Ni-MH cell that has been in storage will often sit below that acceptance threshold — typically under 3.4V resting. The controller reads this as a fault rather than a charge state, so the indicator stays red even though the cell is good. Leave the fitting connected to mains for 12–24 hours without triggering a test. Once the cell climbs above 3.5V, the controller re-evaluates and the indicator shifts to green.

Emergency light dims and drops output partway through a duration test

This happens when the cell has not completed a full conditioning charge before the test is run. A freshly installed Ni-MH cell does not reach full capacity on the first charge cycle — it typically needs one complete charge-discharge pass to settle at rated capacity. If a test is triggered too early, the cell voltage sags under load and the fitting's driver circuit reduces output to protect the cell. Allow a minimum 24-hour charge on mains before running any timed duration test, then perform the full hold-down test at rated load to confirm the cell delivers correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 5020 fitting passed every test for years, but now it fails the duration test even with the new battery installed — what's going on?

A new Ni-MH cell needs at least one full charge-discharge cycle before it delivers rated capacity. If you ran the duration test within a few hours of installation, the cell was not fully conditioned and voltage sagged under sustained load. Reconnect to mains for a full 24 hours, then run the duration test by holding the test button for the complete rated period. The cell should hold voltage and the fitting should pass.

The charge indicator on my 5020 fitting won't go green — it's been red since I put the new cell in. Is the fitting faulty?

The charge controller in the 5020 series has a float acceptance window — if the incoming cell voltage is below roughly 3.5V after storage, the controller flags a fault rather than entering charge mode. Leave the fitting on mains power undisturbed for 12–24 hours. As the cell charges past the acceptance threshold, the controller re-evaluates automatically and the indicator moves to green without any manual reset required.

The fault LED on the fitting is still lit after I installed the confirmed-good cell and the charge indicator has gone green — why?

Some 5020-series fittings latch the fault LED in hardware after a low-battery event and do not clear it automatically once charge is restored. The cell and charge state can both be correct while the fault LED stays on. On most of these fittings, a manual reset is needed: isolate mains power, wait 10 seconds, then restore power. If the LED clears and charge resumes normally, the cell installation is good and no further action is needed.
