Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Willing Wi201575 VTC — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (300148-20)
This is a 3.6V, 2500mAh nickel-cadmium replacement battery for the Willing Wi201575 VTC emergency lighting unit. It replaces OEM part number 300148-20. The cell restores backup illumination capability to the fitting after the original battery has degraded past its serviceable threshold.
- Wi201575 VTC platform fit: The Wi201575 VTC charge controller is tuned to a specific float voltage window for Ni-CD chemistry at 3.6V. Swapping to a different chemistry or voltage alters the charge termination point, which trips the fault circuit. This cell matches the expected charge profile the controller monitors.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and load test. The BMS accepted the cell within the standard float window. No false fault signals were observed during the conditioning cycle.
- First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, press and hold the test button for the full rated test duration. This confirms the cell accepts load current and lets the charge controller register the new cell before the next scheduled compliance inspection.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A freshly installed Ni-CD cell does not arrive at full capacity. Storage discharge means the cell may hold only 60–70% of rated capacity on day one. The charge controller needs a full uninterrupted charge cycle — typically 24 hours on trickle — before the cell reaches 2500mAh. Running a compliance duration test before that cycle completes will produce a short-duration result that does not reflect the cell's true capacity. Allow one full charge before logging any test result.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
The charge controller on the Wi201575 VTC monitors incoming cell voltage to confirm the new cell is within its float acceptance window. A cell that has self-discharged deeply during storage may present a voltage low enough that the controller flags it as a fault rather than entering charge mode. Connect the fitting to mains and leave it for two to four hours — the cell voltage will rise passively to the point where the controller accepts it and transitions to charge mode. If the indicator remains red past four hours, measure the cell terminals with a multimeter and confirm voltage is climbing above 3.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My emergency light dims and cuts out partway through the test cycle — is the new battery faulty?
The cell is almost certainly not faulty. A Ni-CD cell fresh out of storage has not completed its first full charge, so available capacity is lower than the 2500mAh rating on day one. The charge controller needs a continuous 24-hour mains charge before the cell reaches rated capacity. Recharge fully, then rerun the test — the light should sustain full output for the complete rated duration.
The fitting's fault LED is still on after I confirmed the new 300148-20 cell is seated correctly — what's happening?
Some Wi201575 VTC fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. The controller needs a manual reset after the new cell is installed. Disconnect mains power, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect — this forces the controller to reinitialise and re-evaluate cell status from scratch. If the fault LED persists after the reset and a two-hour charge, check that the cell connector is fully seated and the terminal voltage reads above 3.0V.
The old battery in my Wi201575 VTC fitting looks swollen and has damaged the battery compartment — why does this happen?
Swelling in Ni-CD cells in emergency lighting fittings is almost always caused by continuous trickle overcharge at elevated ambient temperature over several years. Emergency lighting units apply a constant trickle charge to keep the cell topped up — if the charge controller ages and loses accurate voltage regulation, the cell absorbs excess current and generates gas internally. Before fitting the replacement, confirm the trickle charge voltage at the battery terminals does not exceed 1.45V per cell (4.35V for a 3-cell pack) under no-load mains conditions.
