Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BlueNEXT BN-901 / BN-901S — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This is a 3.7V, 1000mAh (3.7Wh) Li-ion battery for the BlueNEXT BN-901 and BN-901S portable GPS navigators. It replaces the original cell when capacity fades or the unit no longer holds a charge through a navigation session. Physical dimensions are 52.96 × 33.64 × 5.15mm — confirm these against your original cell before fitting.
- BN-901 and BN-901S compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions and 3.7V single-cell architecture. The BMS on these units monitors cell voltage directly — no proprietary handshake or authentication chip is involved, so swapping cells does not trigger a lock-out.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a GPS navigator platform at 3.7V nominal. The BMS responded correctly at low-voltage cutoff, and charge acceptance held across multiple cycles without thermal events.
- First outdoor power-on after fitting: After installing this cell, power the unit on outside and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. A full power interruption forces a cold start — the GPS receiver rebuilds its almanac from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute on a warm start.
GPS accuracy reduced when battery level drops below 20%
The BN-901 series reduces receiver sensitivity at low battery to protect the cell from deep discharge. This shows up as position drift or a widened accuracy circle on the map — not a signal problem, a power management decision by the firmware. Keeping the battery charged above the low-voltage threshold prevents the receiver from throttling back. If accuracy issues appear mid-route, plug in via the car charger and the receiver sensitivity recovers within a few seconds.
Unit shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty
The on-screen battery gauge on the BN-901 is calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell — or a degraded original — can have a slightly different voltage slope, which causes the firmware to underestimate remaining capacity. The unit hits the hardware cutoff voltage before the visual indicator reaches zero. Run two or three full charge-to-discharge cycles after fitting the new battery; the firmware recalibrates its voltage-to-percentage mapping and the gauge becomes accurate again.

Frequently Asked Questions
My BN-901 lost all saved routes and favourites after I swapped the battery — is that normal?
Yes. The BN-901 stores some route and POI data in battery-backed RAM — when power is fully removed, that volatile memory clears. Anything stored to internal flash (installed maps, most saved POIs) survives, but active routes or recently added waypoints that hadn't been written to flash will be gone. Before pulling the old battery, sync or export your saved locations to a PC via the unit's file manager if the original cell still has enough charge to power on.
Satellite lock is taking 8–10 minutes after I fitted the new battery — was it quicker before?
That delay is a cold start, not a fault with the battery. When the BN-901 loses all power, it discards its cached almanac and ephemeris data — the tables it uses to find satellites quickly. Without that cache, the receiver has to download fresh orbital data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once that first lock completes, subsequent locks drop back under a minute. Stay stationary outside for the first fix and the unit will cache the data correctly for next time.
Active navigation drains the BN-901 battery much faster than when the unit is sitting idle — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong — this is normal for the platform. During active navigation, the GPS receiver runs continuously, the display stays on at full brightness, and the processor updates the route calculation every few seconds. Standby draws a fraction of that current. If drain is faster than expected even in standby, check that the screen timeout is set to the shortest available interval and that the backlight is not locked on — both are in the display settings menu.
