Fits Garmin Nuvi 1690, Nuvi 1690T, and Nuvi 1695 portable GPS navigators; replaces OEM part 361-00019-14.
3.7V 1250mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers 4.63Wh to restore navigation and mapping runtime on this car-mount unit.
Connector is a two-pin proprietary plug; battery slides into the battery bay with the connector oriented toward the board edge.
We bench-tested this cell in a Nuvi 1690 and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault codes.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation—cold start after power interruption takes 5–10 minutes for initial lock versus under one minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Nuvi 1690 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (361-00019-14)

This 3.7V 1250mAh (4.63Wh) lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Nuvi 1690, Nuvi 1690T, and Nuvi 1695 portable GPS navigators. It fits the same physical footprint at 62.00 × 36.50 × 5.50mm and connects to the same power circuit the original used. Swap it in when the device no longer holds enough charge to complete a navigation session.

  • Nuvi 1690, 1690T, and 1695 fitment: All three models share the same internal battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V power rail. The 1690T adds traffic receiver hardware but draws from the same cell — no difference in battery specification across the three variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Nuvi platform and confirmed the BMS communicates correctly with the charging circuit. Charge acceptance, cutoff voltage, and thermal behaviour all matched the original cell's parameters.
  • First-fix after power interruption: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. A cold start after full power removal takes 5–10 minutes for the first fix. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once the almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Nuvi 1690

The Nuvi 1690 scales back GPS receiver sensitivity when voltage drops toward the low-battery threshold. This is a firmware-level power saving behaviour — the receiver draws less current, which reduces its ability to track weaker satellite signals. In open-sky conditions it may not be noticeable, but in urban canyons or under tree cover the position fix becomes less stable. Keeping the battery above 3.5V during active navigation maintains full receiver performance.

Nuvi 1690 shutting off without a low-battery warning

After a battery swap, the fuel gauge IC has no calibration baseline for the new cell. It reads voltage instead of actual state-of-charge, so the displayed battery indicator stays higher than the real charge level. When voltage drops quickly under GPS and display load, the unit hits the cutoff threshold before the warning triggers. Run two or three full charge and discharge cycles to let the device recalibrate its voltage-to-capacity curve and restore accurate low-battery warnings.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nuvi 1690 lost all my saved routes and favourites after I replaced the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Nuvi 1690 holds saved routes and some navigation state in battery-backed RAM. A complete power removal — as happens during a battery swap — clears that volatile memory. POIs saved to internal storage are not affected, but any active route or unsaved favourite added after the last full sync will be gone. Re-enter your saved locations and back them up to a computer via Garmin Express to prevent future loss.

My Nuvi 1690 is taking ages to find satellites after the battery swap — what's happening?

This is a cold start. When the GPS loses power entirely, it discards its cached almanac and ephemeris data — the satellite position tables it uses to lock quickly. Starting from scratch, the receiver needs to download fresh data from scratch over the air, which takes 5–10 minutes in open sky. Leave the unit stationary outdoors with a clear view of the sky for the first fix — subsequent locks will drop back to under a minute once the almanac rebuilds.

The Nuvi 1690 drains much faster when I'm actively navigating compared to when it's sitting idle — is this a battery fault?

It is not a fault. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver at full sensitivity, keeps the backlit display on, and in the 1690T also powers the traffic receiver — that combination draws significantly more current than standby. The display alone accounts for a large share of total draw. Lower screen brightness to its minimum usable level during daytime driving and confirm the traffic antenna is disconnected when not needed to reduce the load on this 1250mAh cell.
