Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Go 950 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AHL03711008)

This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the TomTom Go 950 and Go 950 Live portable GPS navigators. It fits both the standard Go 950 and the Live variant, covering device codes 4CP9.002.00 and 8CP9.011.10. Dimensions are 53.50 × 34.11 × 5.50mm — check these against your original cell before fitting.

  • Go 950 and Go 950 Live compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and voltage rail. The BMS in each accepts this cell without modification or firmware changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle on the Go 950 platform. The BMS accepted charge without fault, voltage held stable at 3.7V nominal, and the device completed a full boot sequence and satellite acquisition normally.
  • Cold-start handling after battery swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it run until it acquires a satellite fix. The Go 950 performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix typically takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent locks will be much faster once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the Go 950

The Go 950's receiver draws consistent power to maintain satellite signal sensitivity. When cell voltage drops toward the lower threshold, some units reduce receiver sensitivity to protect remaining capacity. This shows as position drift, lane-guidance errors, or signal loss on tree-lined roads — symptoms that disappear when the device is running at full charge. If you notice accuracy degrading before the low-battery icon appears, the original cell has likely lost capacity and no longer holds its rated voltage under load.

Go 950 shutting off without warning before the battery indicator empties

This happens when the battery gauge is no longer calibrated to the actual cell. The fuel gauge tracks voltage curves from the original cell — when that cell ages, the discharge curve flattens and then drops sharply, cutting power before the indicator reaches zero. After fitting a new cell, run it through two or three full charge-and-discharge cycles to allow the gauge to re-map against the replacement cell's actual voltage curve. Charge fully to 4.2V, then let the device run on battery until it shuts itself off, and repeat.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom Go 950 lost all saved routes and favourites after I replaced the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Go 950 stores some route and POI data in battery-backed RAM, and a full power removal clears it. Saved favourites stored to internal flash are usually retained, but active routes and recent destinations held in volatile memory are gone when the cell is pulled. Re-enter critical destinations after the swap and sync the device with TomTom MyDrive to restore any backed-up favourites.

The Go 950 is taking 8–10 minutes to get a GPS fix after I fitted the new battery — something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the stored almanac and ephemeris data the receiver uses to find satellites quickly. Without that data, the unit runs a cold start and must download satellite position data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes with a clear sky view. Leave the device stationary outdoors with a clear view of the sky for that first fix — subsequent locks will drop back under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.

The Go 950 drains much faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's sitting idle — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, map renderer, and display simultaneously at high brightness. Standby barely touches the display and parks the receiver in a low-power tracking state. The combined draw during navigation is significantly higher than standby. Dim the screen to the lowest usable level and connect to the vehicle charger on longer trips — the 1100mAh cell is sized for the original device spec, so high-drain navigation sessions will deplete it faster than general standby use suggests.
