Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom XXL IQ Routes — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (6027A0106201)

This is a 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion cell for the TomTom XXL IQ Routes portable GPS navigator. It fits models 4EP0.001.02, 1EP0.029.01, and 5EP0.029.01 using OEM part number 6027A0106201. Replace this cell when the original no longer holds a charge or the unit shuts off unexpectedly during navigation.

  • XXL IQ Routes model fit: These XXL variants share the same physical cell format — 52 × 34 × 5mm — and the same 3.7V nominal voltage rail. The connector pinout and BMS charge thresholds are consistent across all three model numbers listed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the XXL platform. The BMS accepted a full charge from the unit's onboard charging circuit without flagging a fault, and the low-voltage cutoff triggered cleanly before cell stress.
  • First fix after installation: After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. The unit performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix typically takes 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the XXL IQ Routes

Some GPS units reduce receiver sensitivity as cell voltage drops toward the low-voltage cutoff threshold. On the XXL IQ Routes, this can show up as position drift or a weaker satellite signal count before the unit actually shuts off. It is not a firmware bug — it is the receiver conserving draw to stay alive on a depleted cell. A fully charged replacement cell restores the receiver to full sensitivity immediately.

XXL IQ Routes shuts off without warning during navigation

The on-screen battery indicator on this unit is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. After significant cell degradation, the indicator can show two bars while the actual cell voltage is already near cutoff. The BMS trips the shutdown at the correct voltage, but the visual warning arrives too late or not at all. After fitting a fresh cell, run two full charge and discharge cycles so the indicator re-calibrates — watch for the low-battery icon to appear above 3.5V as confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TomTom XXL IQ Routes lost all my saved routes and favourites after I swapped the battery — is that gone for good?

Saved routes and POIs on the XXL IQ Routes are stored in flash memory, so they survive a battery swap in most cases. What can be lost is unsaved route history or any data held in battery-backed volatile RAM, which clears the moment power is fully removed. Check the My Routes and Favourites sections on first boot — if entries are missing, they were not written to flash before the old cell failed. Restore from a backup via TomTom MyDrive if you had sync enabled before the failure.

Satellite lock is taking 5 to 10 minutes every time I start the XXL IQ Routes after the battery replacement — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong. After a full power interruption, the GPS receiver loses its cached almanac and ephemeris data and has to perform a cold start — this always takes 5 to 10 minutes for first fix outdoors. Once the unit has acquired a fix and cached fresh satellite data, subsequent warm starts will lock in under a minute. Leave the device stationary with a clear sky view for the first fix after fitting the new cell, then normal lock times will return.

My XXL IQ Routes drains the battery much faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's just sitting on the desk — is the new cell faulty?

The new cell is behaving correctly. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, processor, and display simultaneously — display brightness alone accounts for a significant portion of total draw. On standby with the screen off, draw drops sharply. To extend time between charges, lower screen brightness in Settings and enable the auto-dim option if available. If drain still seems excessive during navigation, confirm screen brightness is not set to maximum, which is the single largest controllable load on this platform.
