Fits TP-Link C400S2, C420S1, C420S2, D230S1 and related models; replaces OEM HB-A100 battery pack.
3.7V 7000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers sustained current for motion detection and night vision LED without voltage sag.
Connector slides straight into the camera base with positive terminal centered; locking tab clicks once fully seated and locked.
We bench-tested the HB-A100 on a C400S2 unit; BMS accepted the cell without fault codes and held 3.7V under IR LED load.
After installation, power cycle the camera once through the TP-Link app — firmware must register the new cell before motion recording logs correctly to cloud.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TP-Link C400S2 / C420S2 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB-A100)

This is a 3.7V 7000mAh (25.9Wh) Li-ion replacement for the TP-Link HB-A100 battery cell. It fits the C400S2, C420S1, C420S2, and D230S1 wireless outdoor security cameras. Same voltage, same capacity, same connector as the original.

  • C400S2 / C420 / D230 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pin-out, and BMS handshake protocol — so one cell covers all three lines without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through motion-trigger events and sustained IR night-vision draws. The BMS held charge delivery stable across both load profiles without tripping into protective cutoff.
  • First-install power cycle: After inserting the battery, power cycle the camera once through the Tapo app. The firmware must register the new cell before motion events log correctly to cloud storage — skipping this step can cause missed clips on first trigger.

App showing 0% or incorrect charge percentage after battery swap

The C400S2 reads charge level using a voltage-threshold indicator, not a fuel gauge IC. When a new cell is installed, the camera's firmware hasn't calibrated the resting voltage to a percentage yet. The display will show 0% or a frozen number until the battery goes through one full charge cycle. Plug in the charging cable, let it run to full, then disconnect — the percentage should update correctly within a few minutes of reconnection to the app.

Camera goes offline in the Tapo app after battery replacement

Swapping the battery clears the camera's active session token, which the Tapo app uses to maintain the live connection. The camera reboots with a new session but the app still holds the old one, so it registers the device as offline. Open the Tapo app, navigate to the device settings, and tap the reconnect or re-register option to force a fresh handshake. If the camera still shows offline after that, hold the reset button for five seconds and re-add it through the app as a new device.

Frequently Asked Questions

My C400S2 stops recording mid-clip — the footage just cuts off partway through a motion event. What causes that?

A mid-clip dropout on the C400S2 usually happens when the camera loses WiFi and attempts to reconnect. That reconnect draws a current spike that can trip the BMS into a brief protective cutoff, ending the recording. It's more common on weak signal — move the camera closer to the router or add a WiFi extender to reduce reconnect frequency. If the signal is already strong, check that the battery contacts are clean and fully seated so there's no intermittent voltage drop at the connector.

Night vision stops working a few hours after dark, but the camera is still online and showing a live feed. What's happening?

The IR LEDs used for night vision are a sustained high-draw load — higher than daytime motion detection. If the cell is partially depleted, the BMS can cut power to the IR array while keeping the processor and WiFi alive, which is why you still get a live feed but lose the image. Check the battery percentage in the Tapo app; if it reads below 20%, charge the camera fully before the next overnight session. A fresh, fully charged HB-A100 cell should sustain IR output through a normal overnight period without BMS intervention.

The solar panel is connected but the battery percentage keeps dropping over several days instead of recovering. Is the panel faulty?

The solar panel may be working, but the BMS on these cameras requires the cell voltage to be above a minimum re-entry threshold before it accepts a charge input. In winter or low-light conditions, solar output can fall short of that threshold, so the panel produces current but the BMS blocks it from entering the cell. Bring the camera indoors and charge it directly via the USB cable until the percentage reaches at least 30%, then remount it — at that voltage level the BMS will accept solar input again. Also confirm the panel face has no shading or condensation reducing its output.
