Fits Motorola Moto G8 Plus models XT2019-1 and XT2019-2, replacing OEM part number KD40.
3.85V and 3800mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers 14.63Wh to restore full charge cycles on the Snapdragon processor and 6.3-inch display.
Connector slot accepts the original KD40 terminals with vertical orientation; locking tab seats flush against the phone's battery compartment wall.
We bench-tested this cell in a Moto G8 Plus charge cradle — BMS accepted the charge handshake on first cycle with no fault codes or voltage sag under display load.
On first charge after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle — the fuel gauge IC needs to recalibrate against this cell's discharge curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola Moto G8 Plus (XT2019-1 / XT2019-2) — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (KD40)

This 3800mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the KD40 cell in the Motorola Moto G8 Plus, covering both XT2019-1 and XT2019-2 variants. It runs at 3.85V nominal and delivers 14.63Wh total energy. Fit it when the original cell no longer holds charge through a full day of use.

  • XT2019-1 and XT2019-2 compatibility: Both hardware revisions use the same KD40 cell footprint, voltage rail, and flex connector pinout. The BMS handshake is identical across both variants, so no firmware flag distinguishes them at the battery level.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the XT2019 platform and logged BMS charge acceptance across standard and fast-charge profiles. The protection IC hit expected cutoff voltages at both ends of the charge curve with no anomalous trips.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current fast charging pushes current into an uncalibrated state — preventing erratic percentage readings from the first charge onward.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the G8 Plus after a cell swap

The Moto G8 Plus shuts down under load before the percentage hits zero because the fuel gauge IC is still referencing the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell. A fresh cell holds a steeper voltage cliff at the lower end of its charge window — the phone's modem or screen pull current, voltage sags briefly, and the IC interprets that as a critical low-battery condition. Running one full discharge-charge cycle without fast charging forces the coulomb counter to re-learn the new cell's actual capacity. After that cycle, the shutdown threshold aligns correctly with the real state of charge.

USB-PD fast charge not recognised on the first cycle after replacement

After fitting a new KD40 cell, the G8 Plus sometimes reverts to standard 5V/1A charging on the first plug-in and refuses to negotiate the faster profile. The charge IC gates fast-charge protocol acceptance against the BMS state flags — on a new cell that hasn't completed a full cycle, those flags haven't cleared and the handshake stalls. Charge the phone fully at standard rate first, then let it discharge to around 15–20% before plugging in again. Fast charge negotiation re-establishes at that point once the BMS registers a valid cycle count.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Moto G8 Plus powers off completely when I try to turn it on after the battery sat in storage — is the new cell dead?

It isn't dead — the BMS has locked the cell out because voltage dropped below 2.5V during storage. Plug the phone into a wall charger (not a PC port) and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC trickle-charges the cell back above the BMS re-initialisation threshold, after which the phone powers on normally. If the screen stays black past 40 minutes of charging, check that the flex connector is fully seated on both the battery and board side.

The battery percentage on my G8 Plus jumps around — shows 45%, then skips to 31%, then back up to 38% within minutes.

The coulomb counter is recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve after being calibrated to the old, worn cell for months or years. Let the phone discharge fully until it shuts itself off, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without unplugging early. That single full cycle resets the fuel gauge IC's reference points and the percentage stabilises. If jumping continues past two full cycles, confirm the replacement cell is a genuine KD40-spec part at 3.85V — a mismatched nominal voltage will keep the IC in a permanent recalibration loop.

The G8 Plus gets noticeably warm near the back panel during the first few charges on the new battery — is that normal?

A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC works harder in the first few cycles and generates more heat at the charging stage. This is expected and fades after three to five full cycles as the cell's impedance drops. Keep the phone on a hard flat surface during those early charges so heat can dissipate — avoid charging it inside a case or under a pillow. If the back feels hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold (above roughly 45°C) after the fifth cycle, that points to a charge IC issue rather than normal cell break-in.
