Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos Gmini 500 / AV500 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (400081)
This 3.7V, 5200mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original cell in the Archos Gmini 500, Gmini 530, Gmini 560, and AV500 series portable media players. OEM part numbers 400081, 400084, 500738, 500739, and 500743 all cross to this cell. If your player won't hold a charge or fails to power on, this is the direct replacement.
- Gmini and AV500 platform fit: These models share the same 3.7V single-cell Li-Polymer architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers the full range listed without any modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on an AV500-series unit. The BMS engaged correctly at both the low-voltage cutoff and overcharge threshold, with no false trips during normal playback load.
- Post-install trickle charge requirement: Archos media players entering deep-discharge protection will reject a standard charge current immediately after a cell swap. Connect the charger and leave the device off for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on — this allows the BMS to accept trickle current and exit protection mode.
Battery percentage jumping after a cell swap on the Gmini series
After fitting a new cell, the Gmini's fuel gauge recalibrates its voltage-threshold map against the new cell's discharge curve. Until one full charge-discharge cycle completes, the percentage indicator can jump in large increments or stall at an incorrect value. This is not a fault with the battery — it is the onboard gauge resetting its reference points. Run one full charge to 4.2V and a full discharge to automatic shutoff to let the gauge settle.
Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty
The AV500's audio amplifier draws a brief current spike when driving output at higher volumes. Near the end of a cell's discharge curve, voltage sags enough during those spikes to trip the BMS low-voltage cutoff — even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. The device shuts down to protect the cell, not because capacity is gone. Reducing output volume by roughly 20% during the final portion of a charge cycle keeps the voltage above the cutoff threshold and prevents early shutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Archos Gmini 500 won't turn on at all after sitting unused for months — is the new battery dead too?
Almost certainly not. After extended storage, Li-Polymer cells in the Gmini series drop below the BMS minimum voltage threshold, and the player enters deep-discharge protection — it will not respond to the power button. Connect the charger, leave the device completely off, and wait 30 minutes. The BMS will accept a slow trickle current first; once the cell reaches approximately 3.0V, the player will begin a normal charge cycle and power on.
The battery percentage on my AV500 is jumping all over the place — it shows 80%, then drops to 40% in minutes. What's happening?
The Gmini and AV500 fuel gauge maps percentage to a voltage curve stored from the previous cell. After a cell swap, those reference points no longer match the new cell's actual discharge behaviour. Run one complete charge to full (4.2V) followed by one uninterrupted discharge until the device shuts itself off automatically. That single cycle writes a new voltage-to-percentage map and the readout will stabilise from that point forward.
My Archos Gmini 530 cuts out during video playback but restarts fine a few minutes later — why?
Video decoding on the Gmini 530 draws significantly more current than audio-only playback, and that demand spikes further when buffering or seeking. If the cell voltage sags enough during one of those spikes — typically below 3.2V — the BMS trips a temporary low-voltage cutoff and the player shuts down. The cell recovers voltage at rest, which is why the device restarts normally. This behaviour usually appears when the cell is below 20% charge; keeping the player charged above that level eliminates the cutoffs.
