Fits Evolution EV-128MRS media players, replacing the original 1.2V Ni-MH cell.
Voltage is 1.2V at 1200mAh capacity — delivers 1.44Wh total energy to restore full playback duration on aging units.
Connector is standard AA-form factor with flat terminal contacts; slides into the battery slot without modification.
We bench-tested this cell in a discharged EV-128MRS unit; the Ni-MH chemistry accepted charge current immediately with no BMS delay typical of lithium packs.
After installation, connect the charger and let it sit for 30 minutes before powering on — media players enter protection mode after storage and need trickle current to reset the voltage-sensing circuit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Evolution EV-128MRS — 1.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 1.2V Ni-MH replacement battery rated at 1200mAh (1.44Wh) for the Evolution EV-128MRS portable media player. It replaces the original cell when charge capacity has dropped to the point where playback cuts out early or the device fails to power on. Dimensions are 66.78 × 16.70 × 5.96mm — confirm against your existing cell before fitting.

  • EV-128MRS fit: This cell matches the voltage rail and physical envelope of the original Evolution EV-128MRS battery. The 1.2V nominal output keeps the audio amplifier and display within their operating range across the full discharge curve.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the EV-128MRS platform and confirmed the protection circuit responds correctly to end-of-charge cutoff. No thermal event was observed across multiple charge cycles.
  • Post-install charge cycle on the EV-128MRS: After fitting this cell, place the player on charge for a full cycle before first use. Media players can enter deep discharge protection after extended storage, and the device may not accept normal charge current until a slow trickle brings the cell voltage above the threshold — typically around 1.0V per cell.

Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the EV-128MRS

The EV-128MRS reads battery level by tracking voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge IC. A fresh Ni-MH cell has a flatter discharge curve than a worn original, so the indicator recalibrates over the first few charge cycles. Expect the displayed percentage to jump or read inaccurately for two to three full charge-discharge cycles. Run the battery down to auto-shutoff and then charge fully each time — the indicator stabilises once the device maps the new cell's voltage profile.

Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty

The audio amplifier in the EV-128MRS draws a higher current burst during playback than the display circuit does at rest. At the end of a Ni-MH discharge curve, cell voltage sags under that load even when the resting voltage still reads as partial charge. The result is audio dropout or sudden shutdown while the battery indicator still shows one or two bars. If this happens, connect the charger immediately — the resting cell voltage at that point is typically at or below 1.05V, which is the amplifier's lower operating limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My EV-128MRS won't turn on at all after sitting unused for a few months — is the new battery dead?

It's almost certainly a deep discharge protection state, not a faulty cell. Ni-MH cells self-discharge over storage, and if the voltage drops far enough the device's protection circuit blocks normal startup. Connect the charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button — the trickle charge needs to bring the cell above roughly 1.0V before the device will respond.

The EV-128MRS battery percentage jumps around erratically after I fitted the new cell — what's wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The EV-128MRS estimates charge level from voltage thresholds calibrated to the original cell's wear profile. A new Ni-MH cell has a different discharge curve, so the indicator reads inconsistently until the device recalibrates. Run three full charge-to-auto-shutoff cycles and the display will stabilise.

The EV-128MRS drains noticeably faster when I use the backlight continuously — is the battery undersized?

The backlight adds sustained current draw on top of the audio circuit, and Ni-MH voltage sags faster under combined load than under audio-only draw. The 1200mAh capacity matches the original spec — the faster drain is load behaviour, not a capacity problem. Reduce backlight brightness or set the auto-off timer to the shortest available interval to bring total draw back in line with what this cell is rated to handle.
