Fits Sanyo KF-A650 media player; replaces OEM part HF-A1U battery.
1.2V 1200mAh Ni-MH chemistry restores full playback duration on early 2000s Sanyo portable audio players.
Connector slides into battery slot with flat positive terminal contact; locking tab seats flush against housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a KF-A650 unit; voltage held steady at 1.2V under load with no voltage sag.
After installing this Ni-MH pack, insert into charger and wait 30 minutes before powering the player on — older media players enter deep discharge protection after storage and need a trickle charge cycle to accept normal current.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sanyo KF-A650 — 1.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (HF-A1U)

This is a 1.2V 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Sanyo KF-A650 portable digital audio player. It replaces OEM part HF-A1U, the original rechargeable cell that powers the player's audio output and display. Capacity matches the factory specification at 1200mAh (1.44Wh).

  • KF-A650 compatibility: The KF-A650 uses a single Ni-MH cell at 1.2V nominal. The HF-A1U cell format and connector pin-out are specific to this player's battery bay. No voltage conversion or adapter is required — the cell slots directly into the existing housing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles on the KF-A650 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charge current ramped correctly through the trickle and fast-charge phases, and the player's battery indicator tracked accurately through full discharge.
  • Post-swap charge cycle on the KF-A650: After fitting a new cell, place the player on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle before first use. The KF-A650's charge controller uses delta-V detection to terminate fast charge — a partially discharged cell can trigger early termination and leave the battery at 60–70% capacity.

Why the KF-A650 won't wake after sitting unused for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day. A KF-A650 left in a drawer for several months can arrive at a cell voltage below 0.9V — the threshold where the player's protection circuit locks out power-on attempts. The device appears completely dead even when connected to a charger. At this voltage the charge controller defaults to a trickle current of around 50mA and will not switch to fast-charge until the cell recovers to approximately 1.0V. Leave the player on charge for 30–45 minutes before attempting to power it on.

Playback cutting out before the battery indicator reaches empty

The audio amplifier inside the KF-A650 draws a brief current spike when driving headphone output at higher volumes. Near end of discharge, cell voltage sags under this load and momentarily drops below the player's minimum operating voltage, triggering an abrupt shutdown. The battery indicator may still show one bar when this happens because it reads resting voltage, not load voltage. If this occurs consistently, allow the cell to complete two or three full charge-discharge cycles — capacity stabilises after initial conditioning and voltage sag under load decreases.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KF-A650 shows one battery bar then shuts off during playback — is the new cell faulty?

It's not faulty. The audio amplifier pulls a current spike at higher volumes, and a new Ni-MH cell can sag under that load before it's fully conditioned. Run two or three complete charge-discharge cycles and the sag will reduce. If it still cuts out after conditioning, check that the cell contacts in the battery bay are clean and making firm contact — oxidised contacts add resistance and worsen voltage sag.

The battery percentage on my KF-A650 jumps around erratically after fitting the replacement cell — what's happening?

The KF-A650 estimates charge level from cell voltage thresholds calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new Ni-MH cell has a slightly different voltage profile until it's been cycled a few times, so the indicator reads inconsistently. Run three full charge and discharge cycles without interrupting them mid-way. After that the voltage curve settles and the indicator tracks accurately.

The KF-A650 won't power on at all even after I've had it on charge for a few minutes — what do I check?

A deeply discharged Ni-MH cell below 0.9V triggers a protection lockout that blocks normal power-on. The charge controller feeds only a trickle current at this stage — a few minutes isn't long enough to recover the cell. Leave the player connected to the charger for at least 30 minutes without pressing any buttons. Once the cell reaches approximately 1.0V the controller switches to fast-charge and the player will power on normally.
