Fits HiBy R5 and R5 Hi-Res portable music players, replacing OEM part number 654779P.
3.8V, 3100mAh lithium-polymer cell restores full playback duration on aging R5 units.
Connector type matches OEM housing with no physical modifications needed for installation.
Bench testing showed stable voltage ramp on first charge with clean BMS handshake through full cycle.
After install, connect the charger and allow 30 minutes trickle charge before powering on—the R5 enters deep discharge protection after storage and needs slow current acceptance.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HiBy R5 Hi-Res Portable Android Music Player — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (654779P)

This 3.8V, 3100mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces part number 654779P in the HiBy R5 and R5 Hi-Res Portable Android Music Player. It restores full operating capacity when the original cell has degraded from repeated charge cycles. Dimensions are 71.90 × 44.00 × 7.20mm — verify clearance before installing.

  • R5 and R5 Hi-Res compatibility: Both R5 variants share the same cell format, connector, and BMS handshake protocol. The 654779P footprint is identical across the range, so one replacement covers both builds.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the R5 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the protection circuit responded correctly to both overvoltage and undervoltage cutoff thresholds.
  • Post-swap initialisation on the R5: After fitting a new cell, charge the R5 to 100% before first use. Media players frequently enter deep-discharge protection after a cell swap and require a slow trickle charge before the device accepts normal charge current from its USB-C port.

Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the R5

The R5 tracks battery state using voltage thresholds calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell produces slightly different voltage readings at each charge level, so the percentage indicator recalibrates over the first few cycles. Expect erratic readings — jumping from 80% to 45% mid-session — for the first two or three full charge and discharge cycles. The indicator stabilises once the device's fuel gauge has mapped the new cell's actual voltage curve.

Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty

The R5's audio amplifier draws a sharp current spike when driving demanding headphone loads, particularly low-impedance or planar magnetic drivers. Near the end of a cell's discharge curve, voltage sags under that load and drops below the amplifier's minimum operating threshold — even while the UI still shows charge remaining. This is a cell-level voltage sag issue, not a firmware fault. If this happens consistently, discharge the player fully, then charge to 100% to allow the fuel gauge to reset its empty threshold to 3.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HiBy R5 won't turn on after sitting unused for a few months — is the battery dead?

Probably not dead, but it's in deep-discharge protection. When a Li-Polymer cell drops below roughly 2.5V during storage, the BMS locks the cell and the R5 will not boot. Connect the USB-C charger and leave it for 30 minutes without pressing the power button — the BMS needs trickle current to recover before the device will respond to a power-on command.

The R5 battery percentage jumps around constantly after I put in a new cell — what's going on?

This is normal for the first few cycles after a cell swap. The R5's fuel gauge uses voltage-threshold mapping tuned to the original cell's discharge curve. A replacement cell produces slightly different voltages at equivalent charge levels, so the readout recalibrates as it learns the new curve. Run two or three complete charge and discharge cycles and the percentage display will stabilise.

WiFi keeps draining the HiBy R5 battery far faster than just playing music offline — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — wireless draw on the R5 is four to five times higher than display-only or local playback draw. The R5 runs Android, and background app sync, streaming buffers, and DLNA scanning all add load on top of the wireless radio itself. If battery drain is excessive, disable WiFi when streaming from local storage and turn off background app refresh in the Android settings to keep wireless draw from compounding.
