1.2V, 1200mAh Ni-MH cell restores full playback cycles to aging Walkman units that won't hold charge anymore.
Cylindrical AA form factor slots into the original battery compartment with standard spring contacts; no modification needed.
Bench testing showed clean voltage ramp on first charge cycle with no BMS faults or early shutoff during playback load.
After installing this cell, connect the charger and let it trickle for 30 minutes before powering on — media players enter deep discharge protection after long storage and need slow current acceptance before normal operation resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony D-EJ01 / D-EJ915 / D-EJ925 Series — 1.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (NC-5WM)

This is a 1.2V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Sony portable CD Walkman players. It fits the D-EJ01, D-EJ915, D-EJ925, D-EJ955, and over 87 additional D-series models that share the NC-5WM form factor. If your unit no longer powers on or drops out mid-track, this cell is the direct swap.

  • D-EJ01 / D-EJ9xx series fit: These models share the same single-cell Ni-MH housing, connector position, and charge management circuit. The BMS on each unit expects a 1.2V nominal cell — swapping a different voltage or chemistry triggers charge fault behaviour.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the D-EJ01 charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted full charge without fault. Discharge curve stayed flat through mid-cycle and dropped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff.
  • First charge after extended storage: These players enter deep-discharge protection if the battery has sat dead for months. Connect the charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on — the circuit needs a slow trickle before it will accept normal charge current.

Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty

The D-EJ series audio amplifier draws a short current spike each time the laser seeks a new track. Near the end of a Ni-MH discharge curve, cell voltage sags under that spike even though the indicator still shows charge remaining. The player reads this as a fault and cuts audio rather than risk a hard shutdown. This is normal Ni-MH behaviour at end-of-discharge, not a defective cell — a fresh 1200mAh cell will push the cutoff point much further into the cycle.

Battery percentage jumping erratically after swapping the cell

The D-EJ's fuel gauge uses voltage thresholds calibrated to an aged cell's discharge curve. A new 1200mAh Ni-MH cell holds voltage flatter for longer, so the indicator reads "full" then drops suddenly near the end. This is a gauge recalibration issue, not a fault with the replacement cell. Run two or three full charge-to-cutoff cycles and the indicator will stabilise against the new cell's actual voltage curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My D-EJ01 won't power on at all after sitting unused for a year — is the player dead or is it the battery?

Almost always the battery. Ni-MH cells self-discharge to near zero in storage, and the D-EJ charge circuit enters deep-discharge protection when it sees voltage that low. Plug in the charger and leave it connected for 30 minutes without pressing the power button — the circuit needs trickle current before it will re-engage. Once the indicator light changes, attempt a normal power-on.

My D-EJ925 cuts out mid-track but the battery icon still shows two bars — what's happening?

The audio amplifier pulls a brief current spike each time the laser repositions. An aged Ni-MH cell can't sustain that spike at the lower end of its discharge curve, so voltage sags below the player's minimum threshold and audio cuts out. The battery indicator lags behind actual cell state, so two bars can still show when the cell is functionally depleted. Replacing the cell with a fresh 1200mAh unit eliminates that voltage sag at the same state of charge.

I installed the new NC-5WM cell but the battery display keeps jumping between full and half — is it faulty?

The indicator is not faulty — it's recalibrating. The D-EJ gauge maps voltage thresholds to an old cell's steep discharge curve, and a new 1200mAh Ni-MH cell holds a flatter voltage for longer before dropping. Run two complete cycles: charge fully, play until the player shuts off automatically, then charge again. After two cycles the gauge will align to the new cell's actual discharge profile and stop jumping.
