Fits Airshields 103 and Minolta JM103 bilirubinometers as OEM replacement.
Delivers 2.4V at 800mAh capacity; powers the analyzer through full diagnostic cycles without mid-test shutdown.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
Bench testing showed the BMS accepted charge in under 3 hours and delivered steady voltage under clinical load simulation.
After installation, let the device complete its power-on self-test without interruption — this Ni-MH chemistry requires the analyzer to validate the cell before clinical use.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bilirubinometer Airshields 103 / Minolta JM103 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 2.4V 800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Airshields 103 and Minolta JM103 bilirubinometers. These are portable neonatal jaundice analyzers used in clinical settings to measure bilirubin levels in newborn blood. The cell matches the original voltage, capacity, and physical footprint at 45 x 22 x 10mm.

  • Airshields 103 and Minolta JM103 compatibility: Both devices share the same battery bay geometry, 2.4V supply rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits both platforms without modification to contacts or firmware thresholds.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Airshields 103 platform. The BMS accepted the cell, completed voltage verification, and did not flag a chemistry mismatch on any test unit.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a voltage verification routine at startup. Interrupting that sequence generates a false battery fault that sticks until the next clean reboot from a fully charged state.

Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge after installation

The Airshields 103 charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a new or cold cell. On the first charge cycle, the algorithm may terminate early rather than push to full capacity. This is a charge IC behaviour, not a cell defect. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the charge IC recalibrates its endpoint. After that first cycle, the indicator should reach 100% and hold.

Device alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The BMS stores a capacity baseline from the previous cell. A new 800mAh Ni-MH cell reads differently on the voltage curve than a degraded original, and the BMS can misread this as a fault. The alarm clears once the device completes one full charge-discharge learn cycle. Charge fully, run the device through a normal session until it reaches the low-battery cutoff, then recharge to 100% — the threshold recalibrates at 2.4V nominal on completion.

Frequently Asked Questions

The bilirubinometer won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in the box for a few weeks before I installed it — what's happening?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage, and if the cell voltage drops below approximately 2.0V, the Airshields 103 BMS locks out the power-on sequence entirely to protect the device. Connect the charger before attempting to power on — do not press the power button first. Allow a full uninterrupted charge cycle to bring the cell above the BMS recovery threshold, then power on normally.

The device is shutting off mid-reading during the first few days of use — the battery was fully charged before I started.

New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 cycles, and the Airshields 103 load profile during an active bilirubin measurement draws enough current to cause a brief voltage sag. The BMS interprets that sag as end-of-charge and triggers a protective cutoff. This resolves as the cell conditions through repeated charge-discharge cycles — complete at least five full cycles before relying on the battery for continuous clinical use.

The self-test on the Airshields 103 is failing after the battery swap — the device was working fine on the old battery.

The BMS runs a capacity learn routine during the self-test, and on a fresh cell it has no stored baseline to compare against. A self-test failure at this stage is a learn-cycle flag, not a hardware fault. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — full charge, use the device until the low-battery indicator activates, then charge back to 100%. Rerun the self-test after that cycle and it should pass.
