Fits Biocam Dermogenius Basic models; replaces OEM battery part numbers 120284 and BATT/110248.
4.8V, 800mAh Ni-MH cell delivers the charge capacity this handheld dermatology device requires for a full treatment session.
Connector seats into the vertical slot on the device base; locking tab engages at the rear edge.
We bench tested this cell on a fresh Dermogenius unit; the BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault codes.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Biocam Dermogenius Basic — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (120284)

This is a 4.8V, 800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Biocam Dermogenius Basic portable dermatological device. It fits both the standard Dermogenius Basic and the hand magnifier Dermogenius Basic variants. OEM part numbers 120284 and BATT/110248 both cross-reference to this cell pack.

  • Dermogenius Basic platform fit: Both Dermogenius Basic variants share the same 4.8V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake. The cell pack dimensions — 49.50 x 23.50 x 19.50mm — match the original housing without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the Dermogenius platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion and passed the power-on self-test without triggering a fault code. Charge termination occurred cleanly at full capacity.
  • Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Dermogenius runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power mid-cycle stores a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Device not completing boot sequence on a new Dermogenius battery

The Dermogenius Basic runs a BMS learn cycle during its first few charge-discharge passes. A new Ni-MH cell starts with an uncharacterised internal resistance profile, which the device's charge IC reads conservatively. If the boot sequence halts or loops, the BMS has not yet accepted the new cell's baseline. Run one full charge to termination, then a full discharge under normal use, before treating the battery as clinically ready. After that first cycle, boot behaviour normalises.

Low battery alarm triggers immediately after a confirmed full charge

This happens when the device's BMS compares resting cell voltage against a threshold calibrated to a worn OEM cell. A fresh Ni-MH pack at 4.8V can show a slightly different voltage curve than the degraded cell it replaced, causing the alarm logic to misread state-of-charge. The fix is one complete charge-discharge cycle — after that, the BMS recalibrates its threshold to the new cell's actual curve. Confirm resting voltage sits above 4.5V before starting the cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dermogenius Basic powers on but shuts off partway through a treatment session — is that the battery?

Most likely yes, especially in the first ten cycles. The Dermogenius applies a demanding load profile during active therapy, and a new Ni-MH cell has higher internal resistance before it is broken in. That resistance causes a voltage sag under load that trips the low-voltage cutoff. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles under normal use and the shutdowns should stop as the cell's internal resistance drops.

My Dermogenius won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in the drawer for a few months before installation.

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 15–20% per month. A pack stored for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 4.0V for a 4.8V pack — and the device will refuse to boot rather than attempt to run on a depleted cell. Place the battery in the device and connect it to the charger immediately. Most charge ICs will recover the cell with a trickle charge before switching to normal charge current. If the charge indicator does not activate within 30 minutes, the cell has dropped below recovery voltage and needs replacement.

The charge indicator on the Dermogenius stopped advancing before reaching 100% on the first charge — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. The Dermogenius charge IC applies a conservative current limit on an uncharacterised new cell, which can cause the charge indicator to plateau early on the first pass. This is the IC protecting the cell, not a fault. Let the charge cycle complete fully without interrupting it, then discharge through normal use and recharge again. By the second charge cycle, the indicator should reach 100% and the charge IC should apply its full termination logic correctly.
