Fits FiberPa OTDR OT-8800, OT-8810, OT-8820, and SGT-18A fiber optic test equipment.
10.8V 6600mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full power output for cable diagnostics without mid-test dropoff.
Connector slides into vertical slot with positive terminal facing the device body and locking tab engaged.
We bench-tested this cell in an OT-8800 under continuous OTDR scan load — BMS accepted the new chemistry on first charge cycle.
After installation, let the device complete its power-on self-test without interruption; medical equipment BMS verification at startup can flag false faults if powered off mid-cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

FiberPa OTDR OT-8800 / OT-8810 / OT-8820 — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 10.8V 6600mAh (71.28Wh) lithium-ion battery fits the FiberPa OTDR OT-8800, OT-8810, OT-8820, and SGT-18A optical time-domain reflectometers. These units are used in field cable diagnostics and fiber optic testing, where a dead battery mid-job means abandoned test runs and incomplete splice reports. Capacity figures are taken directly from the product specification — 6600mAh at 10.8V nominal.

  • OT-8800 / OT-8810 / OT-8820 / SGT-18A platform: These four models share the same 10.8V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell swap covers the full platform without any connector modification or firmware difference to account for.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, full discharge, and reinitialisation on the OT-8800 platform. The BMS completed its verification handshake cleanly, and the charge indicator advanced to 100% without fault codes after the first full cycle.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the OTDR to complete its full power-on self-test sequence without interruption. These instruments run a BMS verification routine at startup — cutting power during that window triggers a persistent false battery fault that does not clear until the next complete reboot cycle.

Why the OT-8800 reports a battery fault after a confirmed full charge

The OT-8800 BMS stores a capacity baseline from the previous cell and compares it against the new cell's first reported state-of-charge. A fresh lithium-ion cell reports slightly different internal resistance and open-circuit voltage than a worn OEM cell, so the BMS flags it as out of spec. This is not a cell defect — it is the BMS applying thresholds calibrated to the old chemistry profile. One complete charge-discharge cycle allows the BMS to update its baseline and clear the fault automatically.

OTDR shuts off unexpectedly during a live fiber test

During the first several charge cycles, a new lithium-ion cell has not yet reached its full charge-acceptance capacity — internal resistance is slightly elevated compared to a broken-in cell. When the OT-8800 drives the laser and acquisition circuitry simultaneously, the momentary current draw causes a voltage sag that crosses the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold prematurely. This is most common in the first five to ten cycles and resolves as the cell breaks in. If it continues past ten cycles, check that the battery contact pins on the instrument are clean and making full contact — corroded pins increase resistance and worsen sag at the same draw level.

Frequently Asked Questions

The OT-8800 is alarming low battery right after I took it off the charger — charge indicator showed full

The BMS on these OTDRs applies a state-of-charge threshold tuned to the resistance profile of the original cell. A new cell's open-circuit voltage reads slightly lower than a fully cycled OEM cell at the same actual charge level, which trips the alarm before the cell has a chance to prove its capacity. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — charge to full, run the instrument through a normal test session until it shuts off naturally, then charge again. After that first full cycle the BMS recalibrates its threshold and the alarm clears.

The OTDR will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat in the box for a few months before I fitted it

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell (around 7.5V total for a 3S pack at this voltage), the BMS enters deep-discharge lockout and blocks output to protect the cells from damage. Connect the battery to the OT-8800 charger and leave it for a minimum of four hours even if no charge indicator appears initially — the charge IC applies a low-current pre-charge trickle to recover the cell before switching to normal charge current. Once the indicator activates and advances normally, the cell has cleared the lockout threshold.

Charge indicator is stuck at around 80% and will not reach 100% on the first charge

This is the charge IC applying a conservative current limit on a new cell that has not yet completed its first full cycle. The controller reduces charge rate when it detects elevated internal resistance — normal for an uncycled lithium-ion cell — and holds the indicator below full until voltage and temperature stabilise within its acceptance window. Leave the instrument on charge without interruption until the indicator advances to 100%; this typically takes longer on the first charge than on subsequent ones. After two or three full cycles the charge IC adjusts its profile and the indicator reaches 100% at a normal rate.
