Fits Masimo Rainbow, Radical-7, and Radical7 Color Screen pulse oximeters; replaces OEM part numbers 14282, B11588, and AMED3404.
4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 9.6Wh to sustain continuous patient monitoring sessions without mid-procedure power loss.
Connector seats vertically into the battery slot with a single locking tab; confirmed fit on Rainbow and Radical-7 chassis without modification.
We bench-tested this cell on the Rainbow platform; the BMS powered up normally and accepted charge without fault codes or early cutoff during first cycle.
Allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test cycle without interruption after installation — medical devices verify battery integrity at startup, and stopping this sequence triggers a false battery fault that only clears after a complete reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Masimo Rainbow / Radical-7 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (14282)

This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Masimo Rainbow and Radical-7 pulse oximeters. It cross-references OEM part numbers 14282, B11588, and AMED3404. The Rainbow platform measures blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate non-invasively, and this battery keeps that monitoring capability portable and uninterrupted.

  • Rainbow and Radical-7 compatibility: Both the Rainbow and Radical-7 share the same 4.8V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell pack covers the full platform without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the Radical-7. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its initialisation sequence, and voltage held stable across the load profile typical of continuous SpO2 monitoring.
  • Post-install self-test handling: After installing this battery, let the device complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting it. The Masimo BMS runs a battery verification step at startup — cutting power during this window registers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.

Device not completing boot sequence after battery swap

The Radical-7 runs a multi-stage power-on self-test that includes a BMS verification pass. A fresh Ni-MH cell that hasn't completed its first full charge-discharge cycle may sit just below the voltage threshold the device expects at startup. The BMS reads the resting voltage of the new cell and can flag it as insufficient even when the cell is fully charged. Run one complete charge cycle before the first clinical use — the cell needs to reach its stable open-circuit voltage of approximately 5.4V at rest before the device accepts it cleanly.

Charge indicator not reaching 100% on first charge

On the first charge, the Radical-7's charge IC applies a conservative current limit to a new Ni-MH cell it hasn't profiled yet. The indicator may stall between 85–95% and appear stuck. This is the charge controller holding back until the cell's internal resistance stabilises — it is not a fault. Leave the device on charge until the indicator clears. After the first full cycle, subsequent charges reach 100% at normal speed.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Masimo Radical-7 shows a low battery alarm immediately after a confirmed full charge — is the new battery faulty?

This is a BMS recognition issue, not a faulty cell. The Radical-7's BMS is calibrated to OEM cell chemistry and applies a voltage threshold that a new replacement cell hasn't yet demonstrated through a full cycle. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use — after that cycle, the resting voltage stabilises and the device stops triggering the alarm on a full charge.

The Radical-7 won't power on at all after the battery sat unused for several months — what's happening?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack dropped below approximately 4.0V, the Masimo BMS will refuse to power on as a protection measure. Place the battery on charge for a full cycle before attempting to boot the device. If the charge indicator shows activity, the cell is recovering — let it complete the full cycle, then power on normally.

The device shuts off unexpectedly during patient monitoring even though the battery indicator showed adequate charge — what causes this?

In the first ten cycles, a new Ni-MH cell hasn't reached full electrochemical conditioning, so its voltage sags further under the continuous load of active SpO2 monitoring than a conditioned cell would. The BMS reads that voltage sag as a low-battery condition and cuts the device to protect data integrity. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles before using the battery in active clinical sessions — by cycle five, voltage sag under load drops significantly and unexpected shutoffs stop.
