Fits Sherwood Kangaroo 224, 321, 324, and K524 feeding pump models requiring 7.2V replacement battery.
7.2V, 3000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers consistent voltage throughout the infusion cycle for accurate formula delivery without mid-dose cutoff.
Connector accepts the proprietary Sherwood bayonet housing with positive contact pins; orientation keyed to prevent reverse insertion during pump cartridge assembly.
We bench-tested this cell on the Kangaroo 224 load profile — Ni-MH BMS accepted charge without fault codes and held voltage flat across discharge cycle.
After installation, run one complete charge-discharge cycle without interrupting the pump's power-on self-test — medical devices lock battery-fault flags until BMS verification finishes on the new cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sherwood Kangaroo 224 / 321 / 324 / K524 Feeding Pump — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 7.2V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Sherwood Kangaroo 224, 321, 324, and K524 enteral feeding pumps. These pumps deliver nutritional formula at precise flow rates, and the battery powers the motor mechanism during ambulatory or backup operation. Replace this cell when the pump alarms low battery prematurely or fails to hold a charge through a full feed cycle.

  • Kangaroo 224, 321, 324, and K524 compatibility: All four pump models share the same 7.2V battery rail, connector format, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits the full platform without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the Kangaroo platform and confirmed the BMS accepts the cell on first installation, completes charge termination correctly, and does not trigger a false low-battery fault under normal motor load.
  • Post-swap self-test handling: After installing this battery, let the pump complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup — cutting power mid-sequence locks in a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Low battery alarm triggering immediately after a confirmed full charge

The Kangaroo pump's BMS compares cell voltage against a threshold calibrated to the original OEM cell's charge curve. A new Ni-MH cell fresh out of the box has a slightly different internal resistance profile, so the first charge cycle may not push the terminal voltage high enough to clear the alarm threshold. This is not a cell defect — it resolves after one complete charge-discharge cycle. Run the pump on battery until it shuts down naturally, then charge fully before clinical use.

Pump will not power on after the replacement battery sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage, and if the cell voltage drops below approximately 5.4V, the pump's BMS will not initiate a charge cycle — it reads the cell as potentially damaged and locks out. Connect the pump to mains power and leave it on charge for at least four hours without pressing any buttons. Most BMS controllers on this platform will re-initialise the charge IC once the cell recovers above 6.0V and resume normal charging from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Kangaroo pump is alarming low battery right after I charged it overnight — is the new battery faulty?

It is almost certainly not faulty. The pump's BMS sets its low-battery alarm threshold based on the terminal voltage curve of a conditioned cell, and a brand-new Ni-MH cell does not hit that curve on its first charge. Run the pump on battery through one full discharge until it shuts itself off, then charge it fully — after that first complete cycle the cell voltage aligns with the BMS threshold and the alarm clears.

The pump shuts off mid-feed even though the battery indicator showed more than half charge remaining.

This happens in the first ten cycles on a new Ni-MH cell. Enteral feeding pumps draw a pulsed motor load, and the BMS interprets voltage sag during those pulses as a depleted cell — cutting power before the indicated charge is actually used. The fix is conditioning: complete three to five full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the battery indicator for clinical timing. After conditioning, the BMS learns the cell's true discharge curve and sag-triggered shutoffs stop.

The battery charge indicator on the Kangaroo pump never reaches 100% — it stalls around 80% and won't go higher.

The charge IC applies a conservative current limit on new Ni-MH cells to avoid overheating during the first few cycles. At around 80% state of charge the IC backs off and the indicator can appear stuck. Leave the pump on charge for an additional two to three hours past the point it stalls — the IC will trickle-charge the remaining capacity. After the second full charge cycle, the IC recalibrates and the indicator will reach 100% normally.
