Fits Thermo Scientific Impact2 Single Channel pipette controller, replaces OEM part MA 2092.
3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH cell delivers the discharge profile required for precise liquid handling automation in laboratory settings.
Connector seats vertically into the battery compartment with a single locking tab on the right side facing the device front.
We bench-tested this cell in the Impact2 charging circuit; the BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion with no fault codes or extended charge time.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Thermo Scientific Impact2 Single Channel — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MA 2092)

This is a 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH cell that replaces the original MA 2092 battery in the Thermo Scientific Impact2 Single Channel and Scientific Matrix Electronic pipette controllers. These are laboratory-grade liquid handling devices used in clinical and research workflows. When the original cell degrades from repeated charge cycles, this replacement restores normal operation.

  • Impact2 Single Channel and Scientific Matrix Electronic compatibility: Both models share the same 3.6V Ni-MH cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One replacement cell covers both platforms without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Impact2 Single Channel. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its verification sequence, and the charge indicator advanced normally through each stage without fault flags.
  • Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this cell, allow the device to run its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Impact2 runs a BMS verification at startup — cutting power mid-sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next complete reboot cycle.

Device not completing boot sequence after battery swap

The Impact2 runs a BMS learn cycle on first power-up with a new cell. If the cell voltage sits below the controller's startup threshold — common after storage — the device halts mid-boot. Place the unit on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle before attempting to power on. Once the cell reaches nominal charge, the boot sequence completes and the BMS registers the new cell correctly.

Charge indicator stalling below 100% on the first charge

The Impact2's charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a new or unrecognised cell. This causes the indicator to plateau early rather than reaching full charge on the first pass. This is normal Ni-MH charge management behaviour — the IC is protecting the cell during initial conditioning. Run one complete charge-discharge-recharge cycle and the charge IC recalibrates, allowing the indicator to reach 100% on subsequent charges.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Impact2 is alarming low battery immediately after I took it off the charger — why?

The BMS self-test threshold is calibrated for an aged OEM cell, and a new Ni-MH cell has a slightly different voltage profile during the first few cycles. The device reads the cell as below threshold even though it is fully charged. Run one complete charge-discharge-recharge cycle and the BMS recalibrates its reference point. After that first conditioning cycle the alarm clears and the battery reads correctly.

My Impact2 won't power on at all after the new cell sat in the package for a few months — is the battery dead?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage, and the Impact2's BMS will not attempt a boot if the cell voltage has dropped below its recovery floor. Put the device on charge without trying to power it on, and leave it for a full uninterrupted charge cycle. Once the cell voltage climbs back above the BMS recovery threshold — typically 3.4V for this chemistry — the controller will boot normally on the next power-on attempt.

The Impact2 shut off mid-use during the first week with the new battery — is this a faulty cell?

New Ni-MH cells draw harder under the Impact2's load profile during the first ten cycles, and the BMS may trip its overcurrent cutoff before the cell has stabilised. This is a cell conditioning issue, not a fault. Complete several full charge-discharge cycles under normal use and the internal resistance of the cell drops to operating spec. If cutoffs continue after ten full cycles, check that the cell is seated firmly and the contact pins are clean before concluding there is a fault.
