Fits Welch-Allyn 5152 otoscope; replaces OEM part 360002-20009, 360007, 725299, B11520.
7.2V and 1800mAh delivers stable illumination throughout clinical exams without mid-procedure dimming.
Cylindrical Ni-Cd pack slides into the battery compartment with a positive terminal snap connector.
We bench-tested this cell in a 5152 unit; the BMS accepted the charge cycle without lockout or fault codes.
After installation, run the otoscope through one complete power-on self-test cycle before clinical use — the device verifies new Ni-Cd chemistry on first boot and will alarm falsely if the cycle is interrupted.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Welch-Allyn 5152 / 5702 / 6100 Series — 7.2V Ni-Cd Replacement Battery (360002-20009)

This is a 7.2V, 1800mAh Ni-Cd replacement battery for the Welch-Allyn 5152 otoscope and related handheld diagnostic devices. It replaces OEM part numbers 360002-20009, 360007, 725299, and B11520. Fit models include the 5152, 5702, 6100, and 6102 series otoscopes used in clinical examination settings.

  • 5152, 5702, 6100, and 6102 series compatibility: These models share the same 7.2V battery rail, physical form factor, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits all four platforms without modification to the battery compartment or charge contacts.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the 5152 platform. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its verification sequence, and the illumination output held steady across the load cycle without triggering a low-voltage cutoff.
  • First-use self-test protocol: After installing this battery, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Welch-Allyn BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup — cutting power during this sequence logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.

Why the 5152 flags a low-battery warning on a freshly charged new cell

Welch-Allyn's BMS is calibrated to OEM cell chemistry and sets its pass threshold based on a learned charge profile. A new Ni-Cd cell has not yet established that profile, so the BMS reads internal resistance higher than expected and throws a low-battery flag even at full charge. This is not a defective cell — it is a calibration gap. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the BMS updates its baseline. The warning clears after that first conditioning cycle.

Device goes dark mid-examination in the first week of use

New Ni-Cd cells have higher internal resistance before the electrodes are fully conditioned, which means they sag under the otoscope's lamp load more than a broken-in cell would. The BMS interprets that voltage sag as end-of-discharge and cuts power early. This resolves after approximately 10 full charge-discharge cycles as the cell chemistry stabilises. If the shutoff persists past that point, check that the charge contacts are clean and making solid contact — measure resting voltage at the terminals and confirm it reaches at least 8.4V after a full charge before reinserting.

Frequently Asked Questions

The otoscope shows a low-battery alarm immediately after I charged this new battery — is the cell faulty?

It is not faulty. The Welch-Allyn BMS compares the incoming cell's internal resistance against a stored OEM profile, and a new Ni-Cd cell reads higher resistance than a conditioned one. That mismatch triggers the alarm even when the cell is at full charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle to let the BMS update its baseline, and the alarm will clear.

The device won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in its packaging for several months before I installed it — what's happening?

Ni-Cd cells self-discharge in storage, and if the resting voltage drops below the BMS recovery threshold, the controller refuses to initialise. Place the battery on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle before attempting to power on the device. If the charger does not respond, check that contacts are clean and seated, then confirm the charger output reaches 8.4–9.0V at the terminals — that voltage confirms the charge IC has accepted the cell and recovery is underway.

The charge indicator never reaches 100% on the first charge — should I keep it on the charger longer?

The charge IC applies a conservative current limit on cells it has not yet profiled, which means the first charge cycle often terminates early by design. Do not leave it on the charger beyond the normal cycle length. Remove it, run the device until the low-battery indicator appears, then charge it fully again. After that second cycle the charge IC recalibrates and the indicator will reflect true capacity accurately.
