Shipping calculated at checkout.
Fits Welch-Allyn MT1 and MicroTymp 1 otoscopes; replaces OEM part numbers 110165, 72700, 72701.
7.2V at 300mAh delivers steady illumination power for ear canal examinations without mid-procedure dimming.
Connector seats into the battery compartment slot with a positive terminal contact lock; orientation is keyed.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on the MT1 charge dock; BMS accepted full voltage within three hours without fault codes.
After installation, allow the otoscope to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — the device verifies new cell chemistry on startup, and stopping this sequence triggers a false battery alarm that clears only after a full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Welch-Allyn MT1 / MicroTymp 1 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (110165)

This is a 7.2V, 300mAh Ni-MH battery for the Welch-Allyn MT1 otoscope and MicroTymp 1. It replaces OEM part numbers 110165, 72700, and 72701. The MT1 is a handheld clinical otoscope used for ear canal and eardrum examination, and its illumination system depends entirely on this cell.

  • MT1 and MicroTymp 1 compatibility: Both instruments share the same battery bay geometry, voltage rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers both platforms — no adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the MT1 platform. The BMS completed handshake on first insertion, and the illumination system reached full output. Capacity measured within expected range for a fresh Ni-MH cell.
  • Power-on self-test after swap: After inserting this battery, let the device complete its full startup self-test without powering off mid-cycle. The MT1 BMS runs a verification pass at boot — interrupting it triggers a battery fault flag that persists until the next clean reboot.

Why the MT1 reports low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The MT1's charge controller calibrates against OEM cell chemistry on every startup. A fresh replacement cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile than a conditioned cell, so the BMS can misread state-of-charge on the first cycle. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before relying on the battery indicator for clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates its threshold and reads accurately.

MT1 not powering on after the battery sat unused in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day in storage. If the cell voltage drops below the MT1's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 5.4V for this pack — the device will not respond to the power button at all. Place the battery on charge for a full cycle before attempting to power on the instrument. Once the cell recovers above the BMS minimum threshold, normal startup resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MT1 shows a low battery warning the moment I turn it on, even though I just charged the replacement — is the battery faulty?

Not faulty — this is a BMS calibration issue on the first cycle. The MT1's charge controller compares internal resistance against a stored OEM baseline, and a fresh Ni-MH cell doesn't match that profile yet. Run one full charge-discharge cycle through the device, and the indicator will read correctly from the second cycle onward. Do not use the battery indicator for clinical decisions until that first cycle is complete.

My MT1 won't finish its startup self-test after I swapped in the new battery — it just resets or shows a fault.

This happens when the self-test sequence is interrupted before it completes — usually by the user powering off too quickly or a brief voltage dip during the BMS handshake. Insert the battery, power on the MT1, and leave it untouched until the startup cycle fully completes. If the fault flag persists, remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, reinsert, and run the boot sequence again without interruption. A clean boot clears the flag.

The MT1 shuts off unexpectedly mid-examination even with a charged battery — what's causing that?

Fresh Ni-MH cells handle the MT1's illumination load harder in the first 10 cycles because internal resistance is slightly elevated before the cell conditions. This causes momentary voltage sag under load, which the BMS interprets as a low-cell event and triggers a protective cutoff. Condition the cell with five to ten full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use. After conditioning, internal resistance drops and the BMS no longer trips under normal examination load.
