Once cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters deep-discharge lockout and the device will not respond to the power button. Yes, this is a voltage-sag cutoff. When the cellular modem and WiFi radio both run at peak draw — common when signal is weak and several devices are connected — current demand spikes and a degraded or low-charge battery drops below the BMS protection threshold, triggering a full shutdown. The hotspot then reboots, which looks like everyone getting disconnected at once. Charge the replacement battery to 100% before the first session and keep client connections below the device maximum when cellular signal is poor.

The new W-5 battery drains noticeably faster when the hotspot is used in a basement or rural area — is something wrong with the cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The Aircard 782s boosts cellular radio output power automatically when signal strength is low, and that higher transmit power draws significantly more current from the battery than a normal signal-strength session. This is normal modem behaviour, not a battery fault. Move the hotspot to the highest point in the room or near a window to improve signal and reduce radio output power — that single step lowers current draw more than any battery swap will.

The Aircard 782s shows a charging indicator but the battery percentage never climbs past a low number after sitting flat for a long time — what's happening?

When a Li-ion cell discharges below roughly 2.5V, the BMS enters a protective state and only accepts trickle current until voltage recovers to a safe level. During that trickle phase, the charging LED activates but the percentage shown on the hotspot display barely moves — this is normal recovery behaviour, not a faulty charger or dead cell. Leave the unit connected to the Netgear wall adapter for at least 30 minutes before checking the percentage again. If the number begins climbing after that window, the BMS has cleared the lockout and normal charge rate has resumed.
