Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sprint 803S 4G LTE / SWAC803SMH — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W-4)
This is a 3.7V Li-ion battery rated at 2000mAh (7.4Wh), built to fit the Sprint 803S 4G LTE mobile hotspot (also sold as the SWAC803SMH and Aircard 803S). It replaces OEM part numbers W-4 and 1202395 directly. If the original battery swells, no longer holds a charge, or won't boot the unit, this is the direct swap.
- 803S / SWAC803SMH / Aircard 803S fit: All three model designations refer to the same Sierra Wireless-made hotspot unit sold under the Sprint brand. They share the same battery bay dimensions (69.60 × 49.55 × 6.20mm), connector pinout, and BMS handshake — one battery covers all three.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through full charge and discharge cycles on the 803S platform. The BMS communicated correctly with the hotspot's charge controller, accepted a full charge without flagging errors, and held voltage within expected range under simultaneous modem and Wi-Fi radio load.
- Ventilation during extended sessions: Keep the hotspot on a hard, flat surface — not a couch cushion or bag pocket. When connected devices are far away, the cellular radio pushes to maximum output power. That heat has nowhere to go if airflow is blocked, and sustained elevated temperature accelerates cell degradation over time.
Hotspot disconnecting users mid-session on a new battery
The 803S draws power from two radio subsystems simultaneously — the 4G LTE modem and the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio. At maximum connected clients, both radios run at full duty cycle. A battery with weak internal resistance can't sustain that combined current draw without a voltage sag. When cell voltage dips below the BMS cutoff threshold, the hotspot drops the connection or reboots entirely. A fresh cell with low internal resistance eliminates that sag — confirming it fixes the issue.
803S won't power on after sitting unused for weeks
Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month. If the 803S was stored partially charged or left in a hot location, the battery may have dropped below the minimum boot voltage — typically around 3.0V per cell. At that level, the BMS locks the output rail to protect the cell, and the hotspot shows no signs of life. Plug the unit into its charger for at least 15–20 minutes before attempting to power on; the charger's pre-charge circuit needs to bring the cell above the BMS re-enable threshold before the device will respond.

Frequently Asked Questions
My 803S hotspot keeps dropping all connected devices for a few seconds then reconnecting — why does this keep happening?
This is a voltage sag fault. When all client devices are active and the 4G signal is weak, both the LTE modem and Wi-Fi radio hit maximum draw at the same moment. If the battery's internal resistance is too high — common in a degraded cell — voltage briefly collapses past the BMS cutoff point, causing the hotspot to reset the radio stack. A new battery with low internal resistance sustains the load without the dip. Test by reducing connected clients to one or two and checking whether drops stop — if they do, the battery is the cause.
The battery drains much faster when I'm in an area with poor signal — is something wrong with the replacement cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. Poor signal forces the 4G modem into maximum transmit power mode continuously, which is the single highest-draw state the 803S operates in. Add two or three connected devices streaming simultaneously, and total current draw can double compared to strong-signal idle. This is normal LTE radio behaviour — the weaker the signal, the harder the modem works. Move the hotspot closer to a window or external wall to improve signal strength; that single change reduces transmit power and extends charge noticeably.
The hotspot powers on but shows a critically low battery warning immediately after I fit the new battery — should I return it?
Don't return it yet. New Li-ion cells are shipped in a partial state of charge for transport safety regulations — typically 40–60% capacity. The 803S battery indicator reads that as low. Plug into the charger and let it run until the indicator shows full; the OEM charge controller on the 803S will terminate the charge correctly at 4.2V per cell. If the battery still shows critically low after a full uninterrupted charge cycle, then the cell has a fault worth flagging.
