Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sprint Zing / AirCard 753S / AirCard 754S — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original cell in the Sprint Zing mobile hotspot and the Sierra Wireless AirCard 753S and 754S. All three devices share the same battery bay dimensions and connector, so one cell covers the full range. Capacity is rated at 5.55Wh.

  • Zing, 753S, and 754S compatibility: These three hotspot models share the same PCB layout, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The voltage rail is identical across all variants, so the battery slots in and the BMS handshake completes without any firmware mismatch.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a Zing unit with five devices connected simultaneously. The BMS held stable at load without tripping the low-voltage cutoff, and the protection circuit responded correctly to a simulated overload event.
  • Ventilation during extended hotspot sessions: When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio pushes to maximum transmit power. Keep the device on an open surface — not in a bag or pocket — during long sessions. Trapped heat accelerates cell degradation faster than almost any other usage pattern on this hardware.

Why the Zing drops all connected devices mid-session on a new battery

When five or more devices are connected and the cellular signal is weak, the modem and WiFi radio draw peak current simultaneously. This can pull the cell voltage down sharply enough that the BMS interprets it as an unsafe discharge event and cuts output. A worn original battery makes this worse, but even a new cell will trip the cutoff if signal strength stays below two bars for an extended period. Moving the hotspot closer to a window typically restores stable current draw and prevents the cutoff from triggering.

Zing won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the Zing sat unused long enough for the cell to drop below approximately 3.0V, the BMS will block startup to protect the cell from deep-discharge damage. Connect the hotspot to its original charger and leave it for at least 20–30 minutes before pressing the power button — the charger needs to bring the cell back above the minimum boot threshold first. If the LED still does not respond after that time, check that the charger output reads 5V using a USB meter.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Zing keeps dropping all connected devices for a few seconds, then reconnecting — why does this keep happening on a new battery?

This is a voltage-sag cutoff, not a defective battery. When the cellular signal is poor, the modem ramps to full transmit power at the same moment the WiFi radio is serving multiple clients — combined current draw spikes and briefly pulls cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold. The fix is signal strength, not the battery: move the hotspot to a location with at least three signal bars. That reduces radio output power and smooths the current draw curve.

The battery drains much faster than it used to even with only two devices connected — what changed?

Check which network mode the Zing has locked onto. In a marginal coverage area, the device can switch between towers repeatedly, and each re-registration event draws a burst of current from the cell. Multiple connected devices compound this because each one sends and receives traffic independently. Lock the device to a single band in its admin settings if that option is available, or move it to a location with a stable, strong signal — both reduce the radio duty cycle and bring drain back to expected levels.

The Zing shows a charging indicator but the battery percentage hasn't moved after an hour — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. If the cell arrived depleted below 3.0V, the charger enters a trickle-charge pre-conditioning phase that can last 20–40 minutes before normal charge current begins. During that phase, the device may show a charging icon while the percentage appears frozen. Confirm the charger is outputting 5V with a USB meter. If voltage is correct and the percentage still hasn't moved after 90 minutes total, reseat the battery — a loose contact at the connector is the next most likely cause.
