Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi R201 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB7A1H)
This is a 3.7V, 1450mAh Li-ion battery for the Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi R201 portable hotspot. It replaces part number HB7A1H and fits directly into the R201's battery bay. If your R201 no longer holds a charge or shuts off unexpectedly, this swap restores normal operation.
- R201 platform fit: The R201 runs a combined cellular modem and Wi-Fi radio off a single 3.7V cell. Both draw from the same rail simultaneously, so the battery must match the original voltage and connector spec exactly — a mismatch causes the BMS to reject the pack on boot.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on the R201 under a five-device Wi-Fi load with the modem active. The BMS cycled correctly through charge and discharge, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage threshold with no false cutoffs mid-session.
- Ventilation during active sessions: When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio pushes to maximum transmit power. Keep the R201 on a flat, open surface — not in a pocket or bag — during extended sessions. Trapped heat accelerates cell degradation faster than cycling does on this battery size.
Why the R201 cuts connected devices mid-session under a new battery
The R201 runs its cellular modem and Wi-Fi radio simultaneously, and peak current draw spikes sharply when several devices transmit at once. On a 1450mAh cell, that combined draw can cause brief voltage sag below the BMS protection threshold, triggering a momentary shutdown. This looks like a signal drop but is actually a battery rail event. Keeping connected device count below the maximum and staying in a strong signal area reduces modem output power and keeps current draw within the cell's stable discharge range.
R201 won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks
Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month, and a 1450mAh cell stored in a discharged state can drop below the minimum boot voltage the R201's BMS requires to initialise. The device shows no response — no LED, no startup — because the protection circuit blocks output until the cell reaches approximately 3.0V. Connect the R201 to its charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the charge LED does not activate within five minutes, the cell has entered deep discharge and may need a full recovery charge cycle before the BMS resets.

Frequently Asked Questions
My R201 keeps dropping all connected devices for a few seconds then reconnecting — is this a battery issue?
Yes, this is almost always a voltage sag event, not a signal problem. When multiple devices transmit simultaneously, the combined modem and Wi-Fi draw can spike past what the 1450mAh cell delivers cleanly, causing the BMS to briefly cut output. Reduce the number of active connected devices, or move the R201 closer to the cellular tower to lower modem transmit power. If dropouts stop after reducing load, the battery cell is the cause.
My R201 battery drains far faster than it used to, even with only two devices connected — what causes this?
Poor cellular signal is the most common cause people miss. When signal is weak, the R201's modem runs at full transmit power continuously, which draws significantly more current than it would in a strong-signal area. Move the R201 closer to a window or an exterior wall and check whether drain rate improves. If drain stays excessive in good signal conditions, the cell has likely degraded and needs replacement.
The R201 charged overnight but shut off on its own after a short time — why?
This points to the BMS cutting output at a voltage higher than expected, which happens when a degraded cell can't sustain load voltage even from a full state of charge. A fully charged Li-ion cell should read approximately 4.2V at rest; if the pack drops sharply under even light load, the cell's internal resistance has risen past a usable threshold. Replace the battery — a worn cell that passes the charger's termination check can still fail under real draw. Fit the new HB7A1H pack and verify the charge LED cycles correctly before use.
