Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

The BLU Tank Li uses a coulomb-counter fuel gauge that was calibrated against the original cell's internal resistance profile. A new cell has a different discharge curve, so the gauge miscalculates remaining capacity. Under modem activity or screen load, the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold before the OS registers 0%. The fix is one full discharge-charge cycle with the phone screen at low brightness — this resets the coulomb counter baseline against the new cell.

OS reporting wrong battery percentage after cell swap

After installing a replacement cell, the fuel gauge IC still holds the learned capacity data from the degraded original battery. The percentage shown on screen reflects the old cell curve, not the new one. This causes readings that jump erratically or plateau at an incorrect figure. Run the phone down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — after one full cycle the gauge re-anchors to the new cell's actual voltage range near 4.2V at full charge.

My BLU Tank Li won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?

A cell stored in a discharged state can drop below 2.5V, which triggers BMS lockout — the protection circuit blocks current flow to prevent damage to an over-discharged cell. Connect the phone to a wall charger and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing the power button; the charge IC trickle-charges the cell back above the BMS re-enable threshold. Once voltage recovers above roughly 3.0V, the BMS unlocks and the phone will boot normally. If the charging LED never activates after an hour, the cell has dropped below recoverable voltage.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in the new battery — the phone just slow-charges now.

On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the BMS on the replacement cell may not immediately complete the handshake with the phone's USB charge controller. The controller falls back to standard 5V charging as a safety default. Unplug the cable, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect — this resets the negotiation sequence. If fast charging still does not engage, complete one full standard charge cycle first; the BMS typically accepts the fast-charge protocol correctly from the second cycle onward.

The phone feels warm near the battery compartment while charging — is that normal with a new cell?

A new Li-ion cell starts with higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates more energy as heat during the first few cycles. This is expected and not a fault with the replacement. The warmth should reduce noticeably after three to five full charge cycles as impedance settles. If the phone becomes hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold — above roughly 45°C — disconnect the charger and check that the charge port is clean and making solid contact.
