Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

CATERPILLAR CAT S48c — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (L6880)
This is a 3.8V, 3800mAh Li-Polymer battery for the CATERPILLAR CAT S48c rugged smartphone. It replaces OEM part number L6880 when the original cell degrades and can no longer hold adequate charge. Dimensions are 98.16 × 57.80 × 4.30mm — measure your original before fitting if you are unsure.
- CAT S48c platform fit: The S48c uses a fixed 3.8V nominal rail with a BMS that handshakes on a single-wire data line. This cell matches that connector pinout and voltage profile, so the fuel gauge IC can read state-of-charge correctly from the first boot.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the S48c motherboard and monitored BMS communication throughout. The charge IC accepted the cell on the first cycle and the coulomb counter initialised without a fault flag.
- First-cycle fast-charge protocol: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current fast charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the CAT S48c after a cell swap
The CAT S48c's fuel gauge IC holds a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. A new cell with a slightly different impedance profile hits a voltage cliff at a different state-of-charge than the stored map expects. When the modem fires a high-current burst — a call, a data handshake — terminal voltage sags below the shutdown threshold even though the reported percentage reads 20–30%. One full discharge-charge cycle at standard rate forces the coulomb counter to rebuild the curve against the new cell, and sudden shutdowns typically stop after that recalibration pass.
Phone not powering on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-Polymer cells self-discharge in storage. If a replacement cell drops below approximately 2.5V per cell during storage, the BMS enters lockout to prevent damage and the phone will not power on. Plug the device into a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC applies a trickle current that nudges the cell above the BMS recovery threshold, at which point the BMS releases lockout and normal charging resumes. If the charge LED does not light within 30 minutes on a wall charger, check the charger output is at least 5V 1A.

Frequently Asked Questions
The CAT S48c battery percentage keeps jumping around after I put in a new cell — is something wrong with the phone?
Nothing is wrong with the phone. The fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve it mapped for your old cell, so readings against the new cell's different impedance profile come out erratic. Run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% at standard rate — no fast charge. After that single calibration cycle the coulomb counter has a fresh curve and percentage reporting stabilises.
Fast charging stopped working the first time I charged the replacement battery — it only trickle charges now.
The USB-PD or proprietary fast-charge handshake requires the BMS to present within a specific impedance window before the charge IC steps up current. On the first cycle with a new cell, BMS impedance can read outside that window and the charge IC defaults to standard rate as a safety fallback. Complete one full charge-discharge cycle at standard rate, then plug in again — the BMS negotiation succeeds on the second cycle in most cases. If fast charging still does not engage after two cycles, check the cable is rated for fast charge, not a basic 5V data cable.
The CAT S48c feels warm near the battery while charging with the new cell — is that normal?
A new Li-Polymer cell starts with slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates a little more energy as heat during the first few charge cycles. Warm to the touch is normal; hot enough to be uncomfortable is not. Charge on a hard flat surface — not a soft surface that traps heat — and avoid charging in direct sunlight or in a vehicle dashboard pocket. Internal impedance drops after 3–5 cycles and the warmth reduces to the level you'd expect from a normal charge.
