Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MetroPCS HWM835-R — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB4J1)
This is a 3.7V, 1300mAh (4.81Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the MetroPCS HWM835-R smartphone. It uses OEM part number HB4J1 (also listed as HB4J1H) and fits the HWM835-R directly. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge through a normal day.
- HWM835-R platform fit: The HB4J1 cell shares the same voltage rail, physical footprint (54 × 43 × 5mm), and connector orientation as the factory unit. The BMS handshake matches what the HWM835-R charge IC expects, so charging begins without a manual override.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through charge and discharge cycles on the bench. The BMS held the low-voltage cutoff correctly and did not trip during simulated modem and screen load spikes.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging is applied to an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the HWM835-R after a cell swap
The HWM835-R fuel gauge IC holds a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. A new cell with a slightly different internal resistance profile can hit a voltage cliff — dropping below the modem's minimum rail voltage — while the OS still shows 25% remaining. The phone interprets this as a hard fault and shuts down immediately. One full discharge-to-zero, then a full charge cycle, forces the coulomb counter to re-anchor to the new cell's actual curve. After that cycle, reported percentage and real capacity align.
Phone warm near the battery area during the first few charges
A freshly installed cell has higher internal impedance than a cell that has been cycled. The charge IC pushes current into higher resistance, which converts more energy to heat in the first one or two cycles. This is normal and settles as the cell's impedance drops with cycling. If warmth continues past the third full charge, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a partial connection forces the IC to work harder to maintain current.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HWM835-R shuts off suddenly at around 25% after I put in the new battery — is the battery faulty?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The HWM835-R fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so its coulomb counter does not match the new cell's voltage behaviour under load. When the modem or screen draws a spike, the new cell's voltage drops below the phone's cutoff threshold while the OS still reads 25%. Run one complete discharge-to-zero followed by a full uninterrupted charge, with fast charging disabled, and the gauge will recalibrate against the new cell.
The battery percentage on my HWM835-R jumps around erratically — it read 60%, then jumped to 40% in minutes.
Erratic percentage jumps are a fuel gauge IC symptom, not a cell defect. The coulomb counter is extrapolating from a curve it learned on the old cell, and the mismatch causes it to snap between estimates as voltage changes under load. One full discharge cycle — drain the phone to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption — resets the reference points the gauge uses. After that cycle the readings stabilise.
The HWM835-R will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before installation.
The cell likely discharged below 2.5V per cell during storage, which triggers the BMS lockout — a hard protection that prevents charging a cell that dropped into deep discharge territory. Connect the phone to a wall charger (not a PC USB port, which limits current) and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC on the HWM835-R will trickle current into the cell at a low rate to bring it above the BMS re-enable threshold, after which normal charging resumes. If the screen shows no response after 45 minutes on a wall charger, verify the connector is fully seated.
