Fits Sony CMD-J6 and CMD-J26 mobile phones; replaces OEM battery QN-J6BPS.
This 3.7V lithium-ion cell delivers 700mAh capacity to restore call, messaging, and standby runtime on aging CMD-J6 devices.
Connector slides into the original battery slot with no adapter; locking tab engages at the phone's battery compartment edge.
We bench-tested this cell in a CMD-J6 unit; the BMS accepted charge current without fault codes and voltage held steady under load.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle with fast charging disabled — this lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony CMD-J6 / CMD-J26 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (QN-J6BPS)

This is a 3.7V, 700mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Sony CMD-J6 and CMD-J26 mobile phones. It replaces OEM part number QN-J6BPS and restores full power to both handsets. Fit the battery when the original no longer holds adequate charge for calls and messaging.

  • CMD-J6 and CMD-J26 compatibility: Both phones share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. The QN-J6BPS part number covers both models, so one cell fits either handset without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the CMD-J6 platform. The BMS accepted the charge IC handshake on the first cycle, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before normal use. The CMD-J6 fuel gauge IC was calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve — one full cycle resets that reference to the new cell so the percentage readout stays accurate.

Why the CMD-J6 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The CMD-J6 uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks charge state by counting coulombs against a stored discharge curve from the original cell. A new cell has a slightly different internal resistance and voltage profile, so the IC's stored reference no longer matches reality. The display can read anywhere from 10–30% off until the gauge relearns. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full uninterrupted charge gives the IC a clean reference cycle and corrects the readout.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under the load of an active call or backlight — even though the fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. The gauge is reporting a percentage based on a stale discharge curve, not the actual cell voltage. The cell hits roughly 3.0V under load and the protection circuit cuts output before the percentage reaches zero. Running one complete calibration cycle as described above tightens the gauge's voltage tracking and stops the early cutoff from appearing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The CMD-J6 won't power on after sitting in a drawer for months — is the new battery dead?

The BMS locks the cell out when voltage drops below approximately 2.5V during extended storage. The phone won't respond to a normal boot attempt because the protection circuit has latched open. Connect the handset to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing any buttons — the charge IC will trickle current into the cell until it clears the BMS lockout threshold and the phone can power on normally.

The battery percentage is jumping around erratically — 60%, then 45%, then back to 55% within minutes of normal use.

The fuel gauge IC on the CMD-J6 is recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve and hasn't completed a full reference cycle yet. Erratic jumps are normal in the first few uses after a cell swap. Run one complete discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the phone during the charge. After that single full cycle, the coulomb counter locks onto the correct curve and the percentage readout stabilises.

The phone feels warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell — is that normal?

A new Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC pushes voltage into higher initial resistance, which produces more heat during the first few charge cycles. Warmth — not hot — near the battery bay is expected and typically fades after three to five charge cycles as the cell's impedance settles. If the phone becomes too hot to hold comfortably, disconnect the charger and let it cool to room temperature before resuming. By the fifth cycle the temperature during charging should return to the same level as the original battery.
