Why the T68 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

This causes the phone to report inflated or erratic percentages — typically jumping from 60% to 20% without warning. One full discharge-to-shutdown cycle followed by a complete charge forces the IC to rebuild its reference map against the new cell's actual voltage profile. After that single calibration cycle, percentage reporting stabilises.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity problem. Under load — screen backlight, active call, or GSM transmission burst — the cell voltage drops sharply if the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet mapped the new cell's discharge curve. The phone's under-voltage protection trips before the displayed percentage reaches zero. It looks like a dead battery but the cell still holds charge. Perform a full uninterrupted discharge-charge cycle first. If the shutdown persists after calibration, check that resting cell voltage measures at least 3.6V before installation.

My T68i powers off around 25% — did I get a faulty replacement cell?

Almost certainly not a faulty cell. The fuel gauge IC on the T68i is calibrated to your old degraded battery's discharge curve, so it misreads where the voltage cliff sits on the new cell. Under GSM transmission load, voltage dips sharply and the under-voltage protection cuts the phone before the display reaches zero. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — after that cycle, the IC recalibrates and the premature cutoff stops. If it still shuts down after calibration, measure resting cell voltage with a multimeter — it should read at least 3.6V.

The phone won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months before I installed it.

A cell stored uncharged for an extended period can drop below 2.5V, triggering BMS lockout — the protection circuit disconnects the cell to prevent damage, and the phone sees zero voltage and won't boot. Connect the phone to its original charger and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC needs time to push a trickle current through the BMS lockout threshold before normal charging resumes. Once the phone shows any charge indicator, let it reach a full charge before first use. If no charge indicator appears after an hour, the cell has dropped below recoverable threshold and will need to be replaced.

The battery percentage on my T68 is jumping around erratically — showing 80%, then dropping to 40%, then back up.
