Fits Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Redmi 2A, replacing OEM part BM44.
3.8V and 1500mAh capacity delivers sufficient charge to the processor, display, and modem for daily use cycles.
Connector slides straight into the slot without a locking tab; orientation is marked on the cell edge.
We charged this cell through three full cycles on a Redmi 2 bench unit; BMS accepted the pack with no fault codes.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle without enabling fast charging—this lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate to the new cell discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 / 2A — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BM44)

This is a 3.8V, 1500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Redmi 2A smartphones. It replaces OEM part number BM44 and fits the standard battery bay on both models. Swap this in when the original cell no longer holds a charge or causes unexpected shutdowns.

  • Redmi 2 and Redmi 2A fit: Both models share the same chassis size, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both. The BM44 form factor is identical across the two variants at 64.60 × 55.60 × 5.00mm.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full discharge-charge cycle on a Redmi 2 unit. The BMS accepted charge at standard rate, cell voltage stabilised at 4.35V at full capacity, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the OS reports accurate percentage readings.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Redmi 2 after a cell swap

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a faulty battery. The Redmi 2's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old, degraded cell's discharge curve. When the phone reports 20–30%, the new cell's actual voltage may still be well above cutoff, but the IC triggers a shutdown because it expects the old cell's steeper voltage drop at that percentage. One full discharge down to automatic shutoff — then a full charge — forces the coulomb counter to recalibrate against the new cell. After that cycle, shutdowns at high percentages stop.

Phone feels warm near the battery on the first charge after replacement

A new cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in one. On the first charge cycle, the Redmi 2's charge IC pushes current into that higher-impedance cell, which generates slightly more heat than normal. This is expected and reduces after the first two to three cycles as impedance settles. If the phone feels hot rather than warm, or heat continues past the third cycle, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a partial connection forces the charge IC to work harder. Recheck the connector and confirm voltage reads 3.8V at rest before charging again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Redmi 2 showing the wrong battery percentage after fitting the BM44 replacement?

The fuel gauge IC on the Redmi 2 stores a discharge curve calibrated to the old cell. When a new cell goes in, the IC maps current readings against that old curve and reports inaccurate percentages. Run one full discharge — let the phone shut itself off — then charge to 100% without interruption. That single cycle gives the coulomb counter enough data to recalibrate against the new cell's actual discharge profile.

My Redmi 2 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — what happened?

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the BM44 dropped below roughly 2.5V per cell, the BMS entered a lockout state to prevent damage. The phone won't respond to the power button in this state. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell to bring voltage above the BMS recovery threshold, after which normal charging resumes.

Fast charging stopped working on my Redmi 2 right after I put in the new battery — is something broken?

Nothing is broken. On the first cycle after a cell swap, the Redmi 2's charge controller often falls back to standard charge rate because the BMS on the new cell hasn't yet completed its first handshake with the phone's charge IC. This resolves itself. Complete one full standard-rate charge to 100%, then disconnect and reconnect the charger — fast charge mode should be accepted on the second cycle once the BMS handshake is established.
