Fits Acer Extensa 500, 501, and 500DX models; replaces OEM part 02K6524.
9.6V, 4000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 38.4Wh to restore full portability on aging packs.
Connector seats into the original battery bay with standard locking tab; no adapter needed.
We bench-tested this cell in an Extensa 500 — BMS accepted the new pack on insertion, full charge cycle completed without cutoff errors.
After installation, run one full discharge to hibernation cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Acer Extensa 500 Series — 9.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (02K6524)

This is a 9.6V, 4000mAh (38.4Wh) Li-ion battery for the Acer Extensa 500 series notebook. It fits the Extensa 500, 500DX, 501, 501DX, and over two dozen additional models using the same battery bay and connector. OEM part numbers covered include 02K6524, 02K6525, BTP-1731, BTP-1831, and FRU 02K6526.

  • Extensa 500 series compatibility: These models share the same 9.6V battery rail, physical bay dimensions (163.20 × 77.15 × 26.60mm), and connector pinout. The BMS in each unit expects the same charge-termination handshake, so one cell works across the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles, monitoring the BMS cutoff thresholds and charge-termination voltage. The cell hits rated capacity and the protection circuit trips correctly at both ends of the voltage window.
  • First-cycle calibration on the Extensa 500: After installing, run a full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the machine. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.

Why the Extensa 500 BIOS reports poor battery health immediately after a cell swap

The Extensa 500 stores battery health data in EEPROM on the original cell. When a new cell goes in, the BIOS reads no matching history and flags the battery as degraded or unknown. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the replacement cell. Running a full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% lets the BIOS rewrite that learn-cycle data against the new cell. After one or two full cycles, the health indicator corrects itself.

Extensa 500 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on the gauge

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The gauge was trained on the old, degraded cell and misreads the new cell's state of charge. Under full CPU and display load, the laptop hits a voltage point the gauge misidentifies as near-empty and triggers a hard shutdown. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge cycles — after the second cycle the gauge recalibrates and the shutdowns stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Extensa 500 shows the battery as "unknown" in Windows right after I installed the new cell — is it dead?

No — the fuel gauge IC on the Extensa 500 reads EEPROM data stored on the original cell. A new cell has no matching history, so the OS reports it as unknown or 0%. Run a full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After one complete cycle the gauge rewrites its data against the new cell and the unknown status clears.

My Extensa 500 keeps shutting down at around 25% battery shown, but the new cell is fully charged — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC was calibrated against your old, worn-out cell and misreads the new cell's voltage curve. When the laptop hits a load spike from the CPU or display, it crosses a voltage threshold the gauge wrongly interprets as critically low, triggering a shutdown. Two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge-to-100% cycles recalibrate the gauge. After the second cycle the premature shutdowns stop.

Windows and the Acer BIOS are both showing a lower Wh rating than what's listed for this battery — is the wrong cell in the box?

The Wh figure shown in BIOS and Windows pulls from EEPROM data on the cell, which reflects the OEM-rated value written at manufacture. The actual chemistry may deliver slightly more or less than the stored figure depending on temperature and load, and mismatches between the two are normal after a cell swap. The rated capacity for this cell is 38.4Wh at 9.6V. Run a full calibration cycle and the reported figure will stabilise at the correct value.
