Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Clevo W230SD Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W230BAT-6)
This is an 11.1V, 5200mAh (57.72Wh) Li-ion battery for the Clevo W230SD, W230SS, W230ST Barebones, and W230ST notebooks. It replaces OEM part numbers W230BAT-6, 6-87-W230S-4271, 6-87-W230S-4272, 6-87-W230S-4E7, and 3ICR18/65/-2. The cell fits the W230 platform's 6-cell bay and connects to the same BMS handshake used across the full series.
- W230 platform compatibility: The W230SD, W230SS, and W230ST variants share the same battery connector, voltage rail, and BMS communication protocol. One cell fits all four because Clevo kept the power bay identical across the series revision cycle.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a W230ST unit. The BMS handshook cleanly, the fuel gauge updated, and charge current stepped down correctly at the 80% and 95% thresholds without tripping any protection flags.
- W230 BIOS learn cycle after swap: After fitting this cell, run the laptop down to hibernate-cutoff on battery power only, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with the lid open. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on the W230 platform.
Why the W230SD BIOS reports poor battery health immediately after a new cell is fitted
The W230 BIOS reads health data from EEPROM stored on the old cell, not from live voltage measurements. When a new cell is installed, the EEPROM baseline no longer matches the new chemistry, so the BIOS flags the battery as degraded before it has even charged once. This is a data mismatch, not a hardware fault. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate then an uninterrupted charge to 100% rewrites the learn cycle and clears the warning.
W230SD shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The displayed percentage is based on the old cell's discharge profile, so the laptop hits a voltage cliff under CPU and display load before the gauge reaches 0%. The fix is two to three full calibration cycles — discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge to 100% each time. After the third cycle the gauge IC locks onto the correct curve and cutoff aligns with the displayed percentage.

Frequently Asked Questions
The W230SD BIOS says the new battery is in poor health straight out of the box — is the cell faulty?
It is not a faulty cell. The W230 BIOS carries EEPROM health data from the previous battery, and when a new cell is fitted, that stored data no longer matches the live chemistry — so the firmware flags it as degraded before a single charge cycle completes. Run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The BIOS learn cycle resets against the new cell and the health warning clears.
My W230ST shows the wrong Wh rating in system information after fitting this battery — it says 47Wh but the spec is 57.72Wh. Why?
The Wh value displayed in system info is read from the EEPROM on the old cell, not calculated from the new cell's actual chemistry. Until the fuel gauge IC runs at least one full calibration cycle, it reports the rated figure stored from the previous battery. Discharge to hibernate-cutoff and charge back to 100% once; the system info Wh figure will update to reflect the new cell after that cycle completes.
After fitting the replacement, the W230SD fuel gauge jumps erratically — showing 60%, then 45%, then 70% within minutes. Is this normal?
Yes, for the first few cycles. The fuel gauge IC on the W230 platform uses a learned discharge curve to estimate charge state, and that curve is built around the old cell's characteristics. With a new cell installed, the IC has no valid reference and interpolates badly until it accumulates real data. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles without interruption. By the third cycle the gauge IC recalibrates and the percentage readout stabilises.
