This is a 14.4V, 5200mAh (74.88Wh) Li-ion battery pack for the HP Pavilion 14 and Pavilion Sleekbook 14 series laptops. It covers OEM part numbers including HSTNN-YB4D, VK04, 694864-851, and 728248-221, among others. If your existing pack no longer holds a charge or your laptop dies before you unplug it, this is the direct cell replacement.

  • Pavilion 14 and Sleekbook 14 fitment: These models share the same battery connector, voltage rail, and BIOS communication protocol. The VK04 cell platform runs across TPN-Q113, TPN-Q114, and the wider Pavilion 14 lineup — one pack covers all of them because the BMS handshake and pin configuration are identical across the series.

Why the Pavilion 14 reports poor battery health immediately after a new cell install

The HP BIOS reads EEPROM data embedded in the battery pack to assess health status. When a new cell arrives, that EEPROM data doesn't match the charge history the BIOS was tracking on the old pack — so it flags the battery as degraded or unknown. This is a calibration state, not a fault. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate then a full uninterrupted charge cycle lets the BIOS rewrite its learn cycle data against the new cell's actual chemistry and capacity.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated against the new cell yet. The percentage reading is based on stored historical data from the old pack, which no longer reflects actual cell voltage. Under full CPU and display load, the real voltage drops faster than the gauge predicts — the system hits the low-voltage cutoff before the displayed percentage reaches zero. Two full discharge-and-charge cycles recalibrate the fuel gauge IC. After the second cycle, the shutdown-at-30% behaviour typically stops and the gauge tracks accurately down to the 5–7% range.

The Wh figure shown in HP System Information pulls from the EEPROM inside the battery, and the value encoded there can differ slightly from the cell's actual measured capacity depending on how the OEM programmed the chip.
