The BIOS battery learn cycle resets this. Run one full discharge to hibernate, then a full uninterrupted charge to 100%, and the health indicator will update with accurate data from the new cell.

This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under combined CPU and display load before the fuel gauge expects it — called a voltage cliff. The old cell's charge curve is baked into the fuel gauge IC, and the new cell has a different discharge curve until it's been calibrated. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles. After calibration, the shutdown threshold and the displayed percentage will align, and the system will reach a lower state of charge before cutoff.

Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that single learn cycle, the BIOS will record accurate data and the status will clear.

The fuel gauge on my ZBook Studio G9 is jumping around — showing 60%, then 45%, then back up — why?

The fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve it learned from the old cell. A new Li-Polymer cell has a slightly different voltage-to-capacity curve, so the gauge miscalculates state of charge until it maps the new cell. Run two to three complete discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles without interrupting midway. By the third cycle the readings will stabilise and track accurately.

Windows System Information is showing the wrong Wh rating for the ZBook Studio G9 battery — it says something lower than 82.22Wh — is this the right cell?

The Wh figure Windows reads comes from a static value written in the cell's EEPROM at manufacture, and rounding or firmware versioning can cause a small discrepancy against the rated spec. The cell is correct for this platform — check that the voltage reads 11.58V in HP Support Assistant, which confirms the right chemistry and configuration. The capacity the cell actually delivers is independent of the EEPROM label Windows displays.
