Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VeriFone Ruby Console / CPU-5 / CPU-4 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (13931-01)

This is a 6V 1500mAh Ni-MH battery for the VeriFone Ruby Console, CPU-5, and CPU-4 payment terminals. It replaces OEM part numbers 13931-01 and 13466-01. The battery supports both active operation and short-duration backup power during outages at the point of sale.

  • Ruby Console, CPU-5, and CPU-4 compatibility: These three terminals share the same 6V battery rail, physical connector, and BMS handshake protocol — the same cell pack satisfies all three. No wiring adapters or connector modifications are needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through full charge and discharge on the Ruby Console platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC reached full-charge termination correctly using delta-V detection.
  • First transaction cycle after install: After installation, complete one full transaction cycle before deploying in a live environment. The terminal maps battery capacity during normal operation and requires at least one complete power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator correctly.

Payment terminal rebooting mid-transaction after battery swap

The receipt printer motor draws a short high-current spike — typically 1.5 to 2A — at the start of each print job. On a new Ni-MH cell that has not yet been fully conditioned, the internal resistance is slightly elevated. That spike can trip the BMS overcurrent threshold and cause an unexpected reboot. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles before live deployment. After conditioning, internal resistance drops and the BMS handles print-motor surges without tripping.

Terminal won't power on after sitting unused in a drawer

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day. A terminal left unused for several months can drop the cell below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 4.5V for a 6V pack — causing the terminal to appear completely dead. Connect the terminal to mains power and leave it on charge for a minimum of 12 hours before attempting to power on. If the terminal still does not respond after that initial charge, check that the supply voltage at the adapter output reads 9V DC before swapping any components.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ruby Console reboots every time the receipt printer fires — is that the new battery?

Yes, a new Ni-MH cell has slightly higher internal resistance before it is conditioned. The printer motor draws a short current spike at the start of each print job, and that spike can trip the BMS overcurrent cutoff on an unconditioned cell. Run two full charge-discharge cycles on the terminal before putting it back into service. After conditioning, the internal resistance drops and the reboots stop.

The terminal shows 99% charge and stays there — did the battery arrive already damaged?

No — this is normal behaviour for a fresh Ni-MH cell on first charge. The charge IC enters a top-off mode when it detects a new cell and holds the indicator at 99% until delta-V termination completes. Allow the charge cycle to finish without interruption. Once the terminal reaches true full charge and you complete one power cycle, the indicator will read accurately.

The Ruby Console gets noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is that a battery fault?

Not typically. During heavy use the terminal is simultaneously driving the display, the wireless modem, and the receipt printer — that combined draw generates heat in both the power supply and the battery. Ni-MH chemistry also produces more heat than Li-ion during charge and discharge. Check that the ventilation slots on the underside of the terminal are clear of debris. If the terminal is hot to the touch and shutting down, measure the supply voltage at the adapter — it should hold steady at 9V DC under load.
