Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VeriFone X970 / X990 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SX18650-2S1P)
This 7.4V, 2300mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the VeriFone X970 and X990 portable payment terminals. It fits the same physical bay and connects to the same BMS interface as the factory unit. Capacity is rated at 17.02Wh, matching the original power envelope these terminals were configured around.
- X970 and X990 compatibility: Both terminals run the same 7.4V two-cell architecture and share the SX18650-2S1P pack form factor, including the identical connector pinout and BMS communication line. One replacement covers both models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full boot sequences and simulated transaction loads, including receipt printer motor draws. The BMS held within spec under combined wireless, display, and printer current without tripping overcurrent protection.
- First deployment tip for X970 / X990: After installation, complete one full transaction cycle before putting the terminal into live service. The terminal maps battery capacity during normal operation and needs at least one complete power cycle to read the charge indicator correctly.
VeriFone X990 rebooting mid-transaction after a new battery install
The receipt printer motor pulls a short, sharp current spike every time it fires. On a new cell that hasn't completed its first full charge cycle, the BMS can read that spike as an overcurrent event and cut power to protect the pack. This causes the terminal to reboot mid-sale — the payment clears on the network side but the terminal loses the session. Run the terminal through at least one complete charge before processing live transactions. If the problem persists after a full cycle, check that the battery contacts are fully seated.
X970 not completing PCI boot sequence after battery replacement
The X970 runs a PCI-compliant boot check that includes a battery handshake before the OS fully loads. A freshly installed pack that hasn't been through a charge cycle may not pass that handshake, leaving the terminal stuck at a partial boot screen. This isn't a fault with the battery — it's the BMS not yet recognised as validated by the terminal's firmware. Charge the battery to full using the terminal's own dock or power adapter, then power cycle. The boot sequence should complete normally from there.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VeriFone X970 shows 99% battery and won't move off that reading — is the new battery faulty?
No. A new lithium-ion cell enters top-off mode on its first charge, where the charge IC trickle-feeds the last few percent over an extended period. The terminal's charge indicator stays fixed at 99% until that phase ends. Let it charge uninterrupted until the indicator drops to 100% or the charge light changes state — typically after the top-off phase completes. The reading will track normally from the next discharge cycle onward.
The X970 sat unused in a stockroom for several months and now won't power on at all — what's happened?
A lithium-ion cell left unused without a maintenance charge will self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 2.5V per cell, or around 5.0V for this 7.4V pack. Below that level, the BMS locks out the cell to prevent damage and the terminal shows no response to the power button. Connect the terminal to its power adapter and leave it for 30–60 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC will attempt a recovery trickle charge; once the cell clears the recovery threshold, the BMS re-initialises and normal charging resumes.
The X990 feels noticeably warm after a busy period of back-to-back transactions — is the battery overheating?
Warmth during heavy use is normal on the X990. The terminal is drawing simultaneously from the display backlight, the wireless radio, and the receipt printer — that combined load generates heat in a compact chassis. The BMS has a thermal cutoff that triggers if the cell reaches an unsafe temperature, so the terminal will throttle or shut down before damage occurs. If the case feels hot to the touch rather than warm, move the terminal to a cooler surface and let it idle for a few minutes before resuming; continuous operation above 40°C shortens cell life.
