Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Allen Bradley 1746-BA / 1747-BA SLC 500 — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (1769-BA)
This is a 3V, 1000mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell for Allen Bradley SLC 500 series PLC processor modules. It fits the 1746-BA, 1747-BAS, 1747-L20, 1747-L30, and over 120 additional compatible modules. The cell maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock data when the controller loses mains power.
- SLC 500 and ControlLogix module coverage: These modules share a common 3V lithium cell footprint and SRAM retention circuit. The same voltage rail powers both the memory backup and the RTC, so one cell covers both functions across the platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an SLC 500 chassis under simulated power-loss cycles. The BMS held the SRAM retention voltage above the 2.5V cutoff threshold throughout, and the RTC continued tracking accurately after restoration of mains power.
- Hot-swap procedure — mandatory for this controller: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is de-energised will collapse the SRAM supply immediately, erasing the ladder logic program. If power was off during the swap, reload the program from your programming device before restarting the process.
SRAM retention voltage threshold on the SLC 500 processor
The SLC 500 processor holds SRAM content down to approximately 2.5V on the backup cell. Below that threshold, the memory controller drops power and the program is lost — there is no graceful save or partial retention. A cell that reads 2.7V on a multimeter may still be above the cutoff, but internal impedance rise means it can no longer supply the brief current spikes the SRAM needs. Capacity fade, not open-circuit voltage, is usually what triggers memory loss before the battery alarm fires.
Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good cell installation
The SLC 500 battery alarm does not reset automatically once a new cell is installed. The fault bit must be cleared manually in RSLogix 500 or RSLogix Classic via the controller properties dialog, or by cycling the fault reset through the programming software. A new cell shipped in storage condition may also read slightly below 3V on arrival — it rises to rated voltage within a few hours on the PLC float charge circuit. If the alarm persists after clearing the fault bit and allowing the cell to charge, check that the cell is fully seated and the connector is making clean contact.

Frequently Asked Questions
The SLC 500 lost its program after I swapped the battery — can it recover on its own?
No. If the cell was removed while the PLC was powered off, the SRAM supply collapsed and the ladder logic program is gone. The processor has no flash backup on this platform — the program exists only in SRAM while the cell is alive. Reload the program from RSLogix 500 using your last saved project file, then clear the battery fault bit in the controller properties before returning to RUN mode.
My new 1746-BA cell reads 2.85V straight out of the packaging — is it already depleted?
No. Li-MnO2 cells are shipped in a low-drain storage state and typically read between 2.8V and 2.95V on arrival. Once seated in the PLC, the float charge circuit brings the cell up to its rated 3V within a few hours. Measure again after four hours on a powered controller — if it has not reached 2.95V or above by then, reseat the cell and check the connector for corrosion or a bent contact pin.
The battery is being replaced every few months instead of the expected multi-year interval — what causes accelerated drain?
Enclosure temperature is the primary factor. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 25°C, so a panel running at 45°C internally can cut service life to under a year. Check the enclosure ambient temperature with a thermocouple near the processor slot — if it exceeds 40°C consistently, improve ventilation or add a panel cooler. Confirm the replacement interval against the actual enclosure temperature before assuming a faulty cell.
