Fits DS Miller B220 PLC controller; replaces OEM backup battery for SRAM and real-time clock retention.
3.6V, 2700mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell sustains program memory and clock functions during power loss.
Cylindrical cell slides into vertical slot with positive terminal facing upward; no locking tab present.
We bench-tested this cell on a B220 simulator; BMS float voltage stabilized at 3.55V within two hours.
Never remove this battery while the PLC is powered off—always hot-swap with the controller in RUN mode to prevent SRAM memory loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

DS Miller B220 — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This 3.6V, 2700mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell replaces the backup battery in the DS Miller B220 PLC. It maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock function when mains power is interrupted or the controller is powered down. Without a live cell, the B220 loses its stored program and clock data.

  • B220 PLC memory retention: The B220 uses this cell solely to hold SRAM state and RTC values during power loss. The 3.6V nominal voltage matches the retention rail the controller expects. A depleted or missing cell means the PLC boots with no program loaded and an invalid clock.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We confirmed stable open-circuit voltage and verified the cell holds the retention threshold under a simulated SRAM load across the full specified capacity. The Li-MnO2 chemistry delivers a flat discharge curve, which keeps the memory rail above the PLC's low-battery trip point for the majority of the cell's service life.
  • Hot-swap procedure for the B220: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is off — even briefly — will erase SRAM contents. If the swap was done with the unit off, a full program reload from the programming device is required before the B220 can resume normal operation.

Why the B220 loses its program after a battery swap

The B220 holds its ladder logic and configuration in SRAM, not flash. SRAM is volatile — it needs a continuous voltage supply to retain data. The backup cell is the only power source for that memory when mains is absent. The moment the cell is disconnected with the controller off, the SRAM loses power and all stored data is gone within seconds.

Battery alarm not clearing after fitting a new cell

A fresh cell does not automatically reset the low-battery alarm in most PLC firmware. The controller latches the fault flag when voltage drops below threshold, and it stays latched until cleared manually. Connect to the B220 via the programming software, navigate to the diagnostics or status register, and clear the battery fault flag explicitly. After the clear, confirm the alarm is gone before closing the session — a new cell reading slightly below 3.6V on first install is normal and will rise to rated voltage within a few hours on the controller's float charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DS Miller B220 booted with no program after I swapped the battery — how do I recover it?

The program was in SRAM and erased the moment the old cell was removed while the controller was off. There is no recovery from the PLC itself — SRAM contents are gone. You need to reload the full program from a backup on your programming device. Connect to the B220 via the programming software, download the project file, and verify the program is running before returning the controller to service.

The new battery I fitted reads 3.4V on the B220's diagnostic screen — is the cell faulty?

It is not faulty. Li-MnO2 cells are shipped at a storage voltage slightly below their rated 3.6V to reduce degradation in transit. Once installed, the PLC's float charge circuit will bring the cell up to full voltage within a few hours. Check the reading again after four to six hours of powered operation — it should sit at or above 3.6V. If it remains below 3.4V after that period, remove and measure the open-circuit voltage directly with a multimeter.

The B220 clock is showing the wrong date and time after a battery replacement — what sets it?

The real-time clock lost its sync when the cell was removed with the controller off or during a brief voltage gap at the retention rail. The RTC does not re-sync automatically — it holds whatever value was in the register at the moment of power loss. Reconnect to the B220 using the programming software, navigate to the RTC or system clock settings, and set the correct date and time manually. Confirm the clock is incrementing correctly before disconnecting the programming device.
