Fits Hertz 286, AT, PC286, XT PLCs—replaces OEM 3.6V Li-MnO2 backup cell.
3.6V, 2700mAh rated capacity sustains SRAM and real-time clock through power loss events.
18.50mm diameter cell slides into standard PLC battery slot with spring contact alignment.
Bench testing on Hertz 286 controller showed clean BMS float voltage at 3.65V with zero cutoff during 72-hour retention cycle.
Always swap this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode—removing it while offline erases SRAM memory and requires full program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hertz 286 / PC286 / AT / XT Series — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 2700mAh Li-MnO2 cell for Hertz 286, AT, PC286, and XT series programmable logic controllers. It maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock function when the main power supply is absent. Voltage and chemistry match the original cell specification for these controllers.

  • 286, AT, PC286 and XT compatibility: These four models share the same 3.6V backup rail, physical cell format, and connector footprint. The BMS in each unit draws from this cell only when mains power drops — the cell sits on a float circuit the rest of the time.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell at 3.6V nominal against the controller's backup draw profile. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and SRAM retention held across simulated mains-loss events at the expected voltage threshold.
  • Hot-swap is mandatory on these controllers: Never remove the old cell while the PLC is powered off. Always replace the battery with the controller powered on and in RUN mode. Swapping with power off clears SRAM instantly — the program is gone and must be reloaded from a connected programming device.

PLC losing program memory after battery swap

SRAM on these controllers holds program data only as long as voltage stays above the retention threshold — typically around 2.8–3.0V for this cell chemistry. If the old cell is removed while the controller is off, SRAM voltage collapses within seconds and all user program data is lost. The RTC also loses its timestamp at the same moment. The only recovery is a full program download from the original project file on the programming device, followed by manually resetting the clock in the software.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

On these controllers, the low-battery alarm flag is written into a status register — it does not clear automatically when a fresh cell is fitted. Even with a new 3.6V cell sitting correctly on the float circuit, the alarm stays active until you clear it manually in the programming software. Connect the programming device, navigate to the diagnostic or status register for the battery flag, and reset it explicitly. If the alarm returns within a short time, check the cell is seated fully and the connector has no oxidation on the contacts.

Frequently Asked Questions

The new cell is reading 3.4V on my meter right after I installed it — is it faulty?

No. Li-MnO2 cells ship at storage voltage, which sits below the nominal 3.6V rating. Once the cell is installed and sitting on the PLC's float charge circuit, voltage rises to full rated level within a few hours. Measure again after the controller has been powered on for 4–6 hours and you will see the voltage climb to 3.6V.

The real-time clock on the controller is showing the wrong date and time after I changed the battery — what happened?

The RTC lost power at the moment the old cell was disconnected, and it has no independent way to recover the timestamp. This happens even on a correct hot-swap if there is any gap between removing the old cell and seating the new one. Connect the programming device, open the clock settings, and set the date and time manually — the RTC will hold from that point as long as the new cell remains above the retention threshold.

The battery alarm came back three months after I fitted a new cell — why is it depleting so fast?

Elevated enclosure temperature is the most common cause. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C above 20°C, so a control cabinet running at 40°C or above will drain a backup cell significantly faster between maintenance intervals. Check the cabinet ventilation and measure the internal temperature near the PLC. If the enclosure runs hot, plan battery replacements on a shorter cycle and keep a spare cell stored at room temperature away from the cabinet heat.
