Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec PB21 / PB22 / PB31 / PB32 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-030-001)
This 7.4V 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces OEM part numbers 318-030-001, 318-030-003, and AB27 in the Intermec PB21, PB22, PB31, and PB32 mobile printers. These are field-use receipt and label printers common in logistics, retail, and service operations where mains power is not available. Capacity is 3400mAh (25.16Wh) — matching OEM specification from product data.
- PB21 / PB22 / PB31 / PB32 platform compatibility: All four models share the same 7.4V battery rail, physical form factor, and BMS handshake protocol. The connector pinout and communication lines are identical across the series, so one cell fits all four without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge cycles on the PB21 and PB31. The BMS accepted charge correctly from Intermec dock chargers, reported state-of-charge accurately to the printer firmware, and held voltage stable across thermal head activation cycles without triggering low-voltage cutoff prematurely.
- First-use print sequence: After installing, charge fully, then print five consecutive test labels before deploying in the field. The paper feed motor draws a brief current spike on each job — running this sequence lets the BMS log the current profile and calibrate charge-level reporting accurately for that specific unit.
Intermec PB-series Bluetooth dropping mid-print job
The PB21 and PB31 run their Bluetooth radio and thermal print head from the same 7.4V supply. When battery voltage sags below roughly 6.8V under combined load, the radio loses enough power to drop its connection before the printer firmware triggers a low-battery shutdown. The print job stalls, the app loses pairing, and the printer appears to have crashed. This is a voltage-sag event, not a radio fault. Keeping the battery above 50% charge during heavy print runs prevents the sag from reaching that threshold.
Faded or uneven print after fitting a replacement battery
The thermal print head in the PB-series requires a stable, consistent voltage to maintain head temperature across a full label or receipt. If voltage delivery is inconsistent — common with a degraded or incorrectly initialised battery — head temperature fluctuates mid-print, producing faded bands or uneven density. This is not a head fault. Run the five-receipt calibration sequence after first charge, then check that the printer firmware shows battery status as "normal" rather than "low" or "unknown." If the print firmware still reports abnormal status after calibration, discharge to 20% and perform one full charge cycle before re-testing.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Intermec PB21 won't print anything after sitting unused for a few months — what's happening?
Long storage drains Li-ion cells below the minimum voltage the PB21's motor drive circuit needs to activate the paper feed and thermal head. If the battery dropped below approximately 5.5V during storage, the BMS may have entered deep-sleep protection and the printer will appear dead even on the charger. Place the battery in the Intermec dock charger for at least 90 minutes before attempting to power the printer — this allows the BMS to recover from protection mode and accept a full charge cycle before normal use.
The paper feed is jamming on my PB31 even though the battery shows some charge — is this a roller issue?
It is almost always voltage, not the roller. The PB31's feed motor requires enough torque to pull label stock past the platen, and torque drops directly with voltage. At around 6.6–6.8V under load, the motor lacks sufficient force to advance heavier label stock reliably, causing a jam or mis-feed that looks mechanical. Charge the battery fully and re-test — if the jam clears, the cell was the cause. If jams continue at full charge, check the platen roller for adhesive buildup from label backing.
My PB22 pairs fine but loses the Bluetooth connection every time printing starts — the radio was working perfectly before I replaced the battery. What's wrong?
The replacement battery's BMS current profile needs to be calibrated to the PB22's combined radio-plus-print-head load before it delivers voltage cleanly under that spike. Without calibration, the BMS sees the motor-start current surge as an overload and momentarily restricts output — enough to drop the Bluetooth radio. Run five full print jobs back-to-back at full charge, then check that the printer firmware battery status reads "normal." That sequence logs the load profile and the BMS stops over-restricting on subsequent print starts.
