Fits Intermec RP4 mobile printer, replaces OEM part 550053-000.
7.4V, 6800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers stable voltage for thermal print head and paper feed motors.
Connector type is proprietary Intermec latch; verify alignment before sliding battery into rear slot.
We bench-tested this cell in an RP4 unit—BMS accepted the handshake on first charge, discharge curve remained flat through thermal head cycles.
After installation, charge fully and print five test receipts before field deployment—the thermal head requires stable voltage across startup to confirm motor calibration is locked.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec RP4 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (550053-000)

This 7.4V, 6800mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the OEM 550053-000 pack in the Intermec RP4 mobile thermal printer. The RP4 is used for on-site receipt and label printing in retail, delivery, and field service. Swap this in when the original pack no longer holds charge through a full shift.

  • RP4 platform fit: The RP4 battery bay uses a fixed 7.4V two-cell configuration with a dedicated BMS handshake. This pack matches that voltage rail and connector pinout so the printer firmware recognises it on startup without error codes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the RP4's charge cycle and triggered multiple print jobs under load. The BMS held steady through motor-start draw spikes and returned accurate state-of-charge readings to the printer display.
  • First-deploy print sequence: After installing and fully charging, run five test label or receipt prints before putting the unit into service. The paper feed motor calibration pull on initial deployment confirms the BMS current profile is correctly set for the new cells.

Why the RP4 drops Bluetooth mid-job at low battery

The RP4 runs its Bluetooth radio and thermal print head from the same power rail. When the battery drops below roughly 6.8V under load, the radio module gets starved first — the printer stays on but the host device loses its connection. This looks like a pairing fault or app crash but is actually a voltage sag event. A fresh, fully charged pack eliminates the sag and keeps the radio stable through the full print queue.

RP4 printing faded or uneven text on a charged battery

The thermal print head needs a stable voltage to maintain consistent head temperature across the full print width. A degraded or partially discharged pack causes micro-dips during the heating cycle, which produces faded bands or uneven density across labels. If fading appears on a battery that reads as charged, check the pack's resting voltage with a multimeter — anything below 7.2V at rest signals a cell imbalance. Replace the pack and run a full charge before the next job.

Frequently Asked Questions

The RP4 won't print anything after sitting unused for three weeks — what's going on?

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and the RP4's BMS will lock the output if cell voltage drops below the minimum motor-drive threshold — typically around 6.0V. The printer may power on but refuse to feed paper or fire the print head because the BMS is protecting the cells from damage under load. Put the battery on charge for a full cycle before attempting any print job. If the charger doesn't recognise the pack after 30 minutes, the BMS may need a re-initialisation — remove the battery, reinsert it, then reconnect to the charger.

Paper is jamming or feeding unevenly — could the battery be the cause?

Yes. The paper feed motor relies on consistent torque, and torque drops directly with voltage. At low charge, the motor lacks the pull force to drive the paper path cleanly, especially on heavier label stock or when the paper roll is full and heavy. This gets misread as a mechanical jam, but clearing the path and resuming on a depleted pack just repeats the fault. Charge the battery to full — above 8.0V open-circuit — before troubleshooting the feed mechanism itself.

The RP4 shows a full battery indicator but stops mid-print job — why?

An aged cell can hold a surface charge that fools the voltage-based fuel gauge but collapses under the real current draw of a print job. The BMS trips on the voltage drop and cuts output to protect the cells, which looks like a random shutdown or freeze. This is load-induced cutoff, not a firmware issue. Replace the pack and confirm the new battery sustains above 7.0V under active printing load — most BMS units on this platform cut off below that threshold.
