Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AEG BS12CA Series — 12V Li-ion Replacement Battery (L1212R)

This is a 12V 2500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the AEG BS12CA cordless drill/driver and compatible 12V AEG power tools including the BID-1201, CAH120LK, and CD100 series. It uses OEM part references L1212R, 130503001, 130503005, BPL-1220, and CB120L. Voltage and cell count match the original pack exactly.

  • BS12CA and BID-1201 platform fit: These models share the same 12V rail, battery connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. One pack works across the full 12V AEG lineup listed — no adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a BS12CA under repeated trigger-pull cycles. The BMS handled motor-start inrush without tripping, held stable voltage through mid-torque fastening sequences, and recovered cleanly between cycles.
  • Break-in on first use: Run the drill at half load — light drilling, low-torque screwdriving — for the first two charge cycles before applying maximum torque. This lets the BMS profile motor inrush current draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before heavy use.

BMS overcurrent trip on trigger pull in the BS12CA

When you pull the trigger hard on a fresh or cold pack, the motor draws a short inrush spike — often 3 to 5 times the running current. If the BMS registers that spike above its overcurrent threshold, it cuts the cell output immediately to protect the pack. This looks like the tool dying on trigger pull rather than under sustained load. The fix is a gradual break-in: two cycles at partial load lets the BMS log real inrush data and adjust its protection window before you hit full torque.

Charger not recognising the pack after storage

AEG 12V chargers check cell voltage at connection before starting a charge cycle. If the pack has self-discharged below roughly 2.5V per cell during storage, the charger reads it as a fault and refuses to initiate. The cells are not dead — they are below the charger's acceptance threshold. Jump-start the pack with a compatible Li-ion charger that has a recovery or wake mode, or apply a brief trickle charge manually until the pack registers above 10V total, then place it on the standard AEG charger.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BS12CA dies the instant I squeeze the trigger hard — why does it cut out before I even start drilling?

That's the BMS tripping on motor-start inrush current. The spike at trigger pull exceeds the BMS overcurrent threshold before the motor reaches running speed. It's more common with a new or cold pack that hasn't been profiled yet. Run two cycles at half load first — light drilling and low-torque driving — so the BMS can set an accurate overcurrent window before you apply full trigger.

The drill feels weak and bogs down halfway through a screw — the battery isn't dead but something is wrong.

That's voltage sag under load, not a dead pack. Internal resistance at the cell-to-terminal contacts rises with age or if the battery has been repeatedly shallow-cycled without full discharge. Check that the battery contacts on both the pack and the tool are clean and seated firmly — oxidised contacts add resistance directly to the voltage rail. If contacts are clean, the cells have likely degraded from shallow cycling; a full discharge-to-charge cycle can partially recover capacity, but a pack with severe sag needs replacement.

My AEG BS12CA runs fine indoors but loses power noticeably on cold mornings outside — is the battery faulty?

It's not faulty — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which cuts available current and causes the pack to sag under the same load that it handles easily at room temperature. The effect is temporary: bring the pack indoors for 15–20 minutes before use and the performance returns. For sustained cold-weather work, keep a second pack in a warm bag and rotate them — running a cold pack at high torque accelerates cell stress.
