Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hitachi KC 18DA / C 18DL Series — 18V Li-ion 4000mAh Replacement Battery (BCL 1815)
This is an 18V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 4000mAh (72Wh), built to the BCL 1815 / EBM 1830 specification. It fits the Hitachi KC 18DA cordless drill/driver and over 44 compatible 18V Hitachi power tool models including the C 18DL, C 18DLX, and C 18DMR. Voltage, connector, and BMS handshake all match the original pack.
- KC 18DA and C 18DL series compatibility: These models share the same 18V rail, slide-mount connector, and BMS communication protocol. The BCL 1815 and EBM 1830 part numbers are interchangeable across this platform — same cell count, same connector pinout, same charge acceptance signal.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge cycles on a Hitachi 18V charger and monitored the BMS handshake. The protection circuit responded correctly to overcurrent events and the charger transitioned from bulk charge to taper without fault codes.
- Motor inrush break-in on first use: On first use, run the drill at half load for two cycles before applying maximum torque. This gives the BMS time to profile the motor's inrush current draw before it sets its overcurrent protection thresholds — reducing the chance of nuisance trips on aggressive trigger pulls.
BMS cutoff on KC 18DA motor-start inrush surge
Every time you pull the trigger on a cordless drill, the motor draws a short burst of current — often three to five times the running current — before the armature starts spinning. On a new or cold pack, the BMS overcurrent threshold is tight, and that spike can trip the protection circuit before the motor fully starts. The pack shuts down, the tool goes dead, and the battery reads fine on a charger. Letting the pack warm to room temperature and using the break-in approach above reduces inrush sensitivity until the BMS calibrates to the motor's load profile.
Charger won't recognise the pack after storage
If a Li-ion pack sits unused for several months, cell voltage can drop below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. The UC 18YSL and similar Hitachi 18V chargers will blink an error or do nothing when they see a pack below that floor. Some chargers have a recovery mode: hold the pack in the charger for 30 seconds, remove it, reinsert it — this prompts a soft wake cycle. If voltage has dropped below 2.0V per cell, the BMS may have locked the pack and it will need a controlled pre-charge at 0.1C before normal charging can resume.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Hitachi KC 18DA cuts out the instant I pull the trigger hard — battery seems fine otherwise. What's happening?
That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush. The current spike when the drill starts under load briefly exceeds the pack's protection threshold, and the BMS shuts down before the motor reaches running speed. It's more common on cold packs or a new battery that hasn't been cycled. Warm the pack to room temperature, then run two light-load cycles — the BMS will recalibrate its overcurrent window to match the KC 18DA's motor draw.
The drill feels weak and bogs down under load — new battery, fully charged. What's wrong?
Voltage sag under load usually points to high contact resistance at the rail or terminal connections, not a faulty cell. Oxidised or dirty slide-mount contacts between the pack and the tool body create a resistive drop that shows up as loss of torque when current demand spikes. Clean the contacts on both the battery and the tool with a dry cloth or fine abrasive, then check that the pack seats fully and clicks into lock position. A solid connection should bring the rail voltage at load back above 16.5V on an 18V pack.
The KC 18DA runs fine indoors but loses noticeable power on cold job sites. Is something wrong with the battery?
Nothing is wrong — this is normal Li-ion behaviour below 5°C. Cold temperatures raise the internal resistance of lithium cells, which increases voltage sag under the same current draw. The pack delivers fewer watt-hours before the BMS hits its low-voltage cutoff. Store the battery inside until you're ready to use it, and keep a second pack warm in a jacket pocket. Performance returns to normal once the cells reach around 15°C.
