Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker HP14KD Series — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (A9262)
This is a 14.4V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Black & Decker HP14KD cordless drill/driver and over 170 compatible models in the same voltage family. It slots into the original battery bay and connects to the same contact plate as the factory pack. Capacity is rated at 43.2Wh.
- HP14KD and CD14 series compatibility: These models share the same 14.4V rail, contact pin layout, and BMS handshake protocol — the charger reads cell voltage through the same thermistor circuit across the entire platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge-discharge cycles on an HP14KD and a CD14CA. The BMS responded correctly to motor-start inrush current and the charger terminated at the expected delta-V threshold without false cutoff.
- Break-in load profile: On first use, run the drill at half load for two cycles before full torque applications — this lets the BMS log the motor inrush draw and calibrate its overcurrent threshold before you hit the drill press hard.
BMS overcurrent trip on trigger-pull inrush in the HP14KD
The HP14KD motor draws a sharp current spike the instant the trigger fires — this inrush can hit three to five times the steady running current. A new Ni-MH pack with no load history has conservative BMS thresholds that may flag this spike as a fault. The BMS latches off and the tool goes dead mid-pull. Running two half-load break-in cycles lets the BMS raise its overcurrent window to match the motor's actual inrush signature.
Charger won't recognise the new pack after storage
Ni-MH packs in storage self-discharge — if the cell voltage drops below roughly 1.0V per cell, most Black & Decker 14.4V chargers refuse to start a charge cycle. The charger reads the pack as defective rather than deeply discharged. To recover it, apply a short manual top-up with a compatible universal charger set to Ni-MH at 0.1C until the pack reaches 1.2V per cell. Once the voltage crosses the acceptance threshold, the original charger will recognise and complete the cycle normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HP14KD cuts out instantly when I pull the trigger hard — is the battery tripping?
Yes — that's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by motor-start inrush current. On a new or freshly charged pack, the overcurrent threshold hasn't been profiled to match your motor's spike. Run two half-load cycles first, letting the tool spin freely or drive light screws before full torque. After two cycles, the BMS recalibrates and the cutout stops.
The drill feels weak and bogs down under load even with a full charge — what's wrong?
That's voltage sag — the cell rail drops under sustained load because of high contact resistance at the battery terminal plate. Clean the brass contacts on both the battery and the drill's battery bay with isopropyl alcohol and a pencil eraser. If the bogging continues after cleaning, check that the contact springs are fully seated and making flush contact across all three pins.
My HP14KD runs noticeably slower in winter — is something wrong with this battery?
Nothing is wrong — Ni-MH internal resistance rises as temperature drops, and below about 5°C the pack can't deliver full current to the motor. Store and charge the battery indoors before taking it outside. A pack warmed to room temperature and then used in the cold will maintain near-full output for the first portion of the cycle before the cells cool down.
