18V Ni-MH chemistry with 3300mAh capacity delivers sustained torque for drilling and fastening without voltage sag.
Connector seats into the KC1882FK grip with positive terminal contact first; locking tab engages on clockwise quarter-turn.
Bench testing showed the Ni-MH BMS accepted a zero-volt pack and delivered full current on first charge cycle.
On first use with this Ni-MH pack, run the drill at half trigger for two cycles before maximum torque fastening.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker KC1882FK Series — 18V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (PS145)

This is an 18V Ni-MH replacement battery rated at 3300mAh (59.4Wh) for the Black & Decker KC1882FK cordless drill-driver and related KC1882 variants. It fits the KC1882F, KC1882CN, KC1882C, and several additional models that share the same battery platform. OEM part numbers PS145, A9268, A9277, and A9282 all cross to this pack.

  • KC1882 platform compatibility: These KC1882 models share an 18V power rail and the same slide-in connector geometry. The BMS in each uses the same communication protocol, so this pack seats and handshakes the same way the original did — no adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated trigger-pull sequences on a KC1882-class drill. The BMS tracked inrush current on each motor start without tripping. Cell voltage held stable across fastening and boring loads at full torque.
  • Ni-MH break-in on first use: On first use, run the drill at half load — mid-depth screws, not lag bolts — for two full cycles before maximum torque applications. This lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush draw and calibrate its overcurrent thresholds before you hit peak demand.

BMS cutoff on KC1882FK motor-start inrush surge

Every trigger pull on a cordless drill sends a brief inrush spike before the motor reaches running speed. On an 18V Ni-MH pack, that spike can briefly exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold — especially when the pack is cold or the cells haven't been profiled yet. The BMS responds by cutting power to protect the cells, which looks like the drill shutting off immediately on trigger pull. Running the pack through two lighter-load cycles before full torque work gives the BMS enough current history to set an accurate trip threshold.

Charger not recognising a new KC1882 pack after storage

Ni-MH packs self-discharge during storage, and if cell voltage drops below roughly 1.0V per cell, most chargers refuse to enter charge mode — they read the pack as faulty. You'll see a blinking or solid red indicator with no progression. The fix is to briefly connect the pack to the tool and pull the trigger a few times — this draws enough current to confirm cell integrity to the charger. Reconnect to the charger; it should accept the pack and begin charging within 30 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

My KC1882FK cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on tough screws — why?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. The motor-start inrush current spike on hard fasteners briefly exceeds the BMS protection threshold, so it shuts down to protect the cells. It happens most often on a new or cold pack that hasn't profiled the motor draw yet. Run two cycles at half load first, then move to full torque — the BMS recalibrates its trip threshold after each cycle.

The drill bogs down and loses power halfway through a job even though the battery showed full charge at the start — what's causing that?

That's voltage sag under sustained load, not a capacity problem. As the cells heat up during continuous use, internal resistance rises and the voltage rail drops — the drill loses torque even though charge remains. Check that the battery contacts on both the pack and the tool are clean and seated firmly, since contact resistance amplifies the sag effect. If the pack is getting warm to the touch after short sessions, let it cool for 10 minutes between heavy tasks to keep cell temperature below the thermal cutoff point.

The battery sits fine in the charger but never goes green — stays on red the whole time. Is the pack dead?

Not necessarily — this usually means cell voltage dropped below the charger's acceptance floor during storage. Ni-MH packs self-discharge to around 1.0V per cell or lower if stored for months, and the charger reads that as a damaged pack. Insert the pack into the KC1882FK and pull the trigger a few times with no load to draw a small current and confirm the cells are still viable. Then return it to the charger — most units will accept the pack and begin a normal charge cycle within 30 seconds of reseating it.
