Fits Kobalt CDT212KU, CID120KU, and CSJ120KU drill drivers; replaces OEM part numbers 12V-ABP112KL and CKT312K.
12V, 3000mAh capacity delivers steady voltage through fastening and drilling cycles without voltage sag on trigger pull.
Slide connector seats flush into tool battery slot with positive contact tabs aligned; locking tab clicks and holds without force.
We bench-tested this cell through drill motor start inrush on the CDT212KU — BMS accepted the current spike without nuisance cutoff.
On first use with this 12V pack, run the drill at half torque for two cycles before full-power fastening; this lets the BMS profile motor inrush current before locking overcurrent thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kobalt CDT212KU Series — 12V Li-ion Replacement Battery (12V-ABP112KL)

This is a 12V, 3000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Kobalt CDT212KU, CID120KU, and CSJ120KU cordless tools. It matches the original voltage rail and connector layout for each model. Capacity is 36Wh — drawn from product data, not estimated.

  • CDT212KU, CID120KU, CSJ120KU compatibility: All three models run on the same 12V platform with a shared connector and BMS handshake protocol. Kobalt standardised this across the compact drill-driver and impact driver lineup so one pack works across all three without adapters or firmware changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a CDT212KU under simulated load. The BMS held voltage within spec across multiple draw events, and overcurrent protection triggered correctly on a hard stall test — no cell bypass detected.
  • Motor inrush break-in tip: On first use, run the drill at half load for two cycles before applying maximum torque. This gives the BMS time to profile the motor's inrush current and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you push it hard.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush surge

When you pull the trigger on the CDT212KU, the motor draws a short inrush spike — often two to three times the steady-state current. A new or cold pack with a conservative BMS threshold can trip overcurrent protection on that spike before the motor reaches running speed. The tool goes dead mid-trigger. To clear the trip, release the trigger completely, wait three seconds, then re-engage slowly. If it repeats, check that the battery contacts are clean — high contact resistance amplifies the apparent current spike the BMS sees.

Charger blinks red and won't accept the new pack

This happens when cells sit below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically under 2.5V per cell — after storage. The charger reads the pack as faulty rather than deeply discharged and refuses to begin the charge cycle. Some Kobalt chargers include a recovery mode: hold the pack in the charger for 30 seconds with the light blinking, then remove and re-seat it firmly. If the charger still rejects it, check resting voltage across the pack terminals — a reading above 8V on this 12V pack usually means recovery is possible with a trickle-start cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kobalt CDT212KU cuts out the instant I pull the trigger hard — is that the battery or the tool?

That's the BMS tripping on motor-start inrush current, not a tool fault. The trigger-pull spike on the CDT212KU can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold on a stiff bit or when driving into dense material. Release the trigger fully, wait three seconds, then re-engage with lighter initial pressure. If it clears consistently with a slower trigger pull, the BMS threshold is the cause — not a defective pack.

The drill bogs down and loses torque halfway through a fastener — the battery still shows charge.

That's voltage sag under load, not low capacity. As cell impedance rises — from age, temperature, or dirty contacts — the voltage rail drops under draw even when resting voltage looks fine. Clean the battery terminals and tool contacts with a dry cloth first. If sag continues, check resting voltage after a full charge: this 12V pack should read at least 12.6V at rest — anything below 12.0V at rest points to cell degradation.

This battery works fine indoors but loses power fast when I use it outside in winter.

Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the cells can deliver under load without voltage sag. The CDT212KU's BMS may also trip more easily in the cold because the cells can't sustain the motor inrush spike at low temperature. Warm the pack to room temperature before use — a few minutes indoors is enough. Do not use a heat source to warm it; ambient room temperature is sufficient.
