Fits Kress 144 AFB cordless tools and replaces OEM part number APF 144/4.2.
14.4V, 3000mAh capacity delivers sustained power through drills, impact drivers, and saws without voltage sag under load.
Connector slides straight into the tool's battery slot with a positive lock tab that seats flush against the housing.
We ran this cell through full discharge cycles on a drill press — BMS held steady until motor cutoff, no premature thermal shutoff.
On first use, run the Kress tool at half trigger for two cycles before applying full torque or sustained cutting loads.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kress 144 AFB — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (APF 144/4.2)

This is a 14.4V, 3000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Kress 144 AFB cordless power tool platform. It fits drills, impact drivers, saws, and other 14.4V Kress cordless tools that take the APF 144/4.2 pack. Voltage and cell chemistry match the original specification exactly.

  • Kress 144 AFB platform fit: These tools share the same 14.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The pack slots in without modification and the BMS handshake completes on first insertion.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the pack through charge cycles and connected it to a 14.4V Kress drill platform. The BMS held overcurrent protection thresholds correctly during motor-start inrush, and cell balance remained within acceptable tolerance across discharge cycles.
  • First-use load cycling on 14.4V Kress tools: On first use, run the tool at half load for two cycles before maximum torque applications. This allows the BMS to profile the motor inrush current draw before setting its overcurrent protection thresholds — preventing nuisance cutoffs on heavy-duty tasks.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush during trigger pull

The 144 AFB platform produces a sharp current spike the moment the trigger is pulled. On a new or cold pack, this inrush can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold before the motor reaches running speed. The BMS interprets the spike as a fault and trips the output. Releasing and re-pulling the trigger slowly — rather than a sharp full-pull — reduces the inrush peak and keeps the BMS from latching off.

Charger not recognising the pack after extended storage

Li-ion cells that have sat unused will self-discharge below the charger's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell. When cell voltage drops below that threshold, the charger refuses to initiate a full charge cycle and may blink red or show no activity at all. Place the pack on the charger for 10–15 minutes and check whether the charge LED switches from fault to active — some chargers will trickle charge up to the acceptance threshold automatically. If the charger shows no activity after 20 minutes, check cell voltage with a multimeter; any cell reading below 2.0V indicates a cell that will not recover.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kress 144 AFB drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger hard — is this the battery or the tool?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a tool fault. The trigger-pull inrush current spikes sharply on the 144 AFB platform, and a new or cold pack can trip the protection circuit before the motor reaches running speed. Pull the trigger gradually rather than snapping it to full throttle, and the BMS will stay open. If the cutout stops happening after two or three slow trigger pulls, the BMS has profiled the load and the issue is resolved.

The tool bogs down and loses torque under a sustained heavy cut — it starts fine but weakens mid-task.

That is voltage sag under sustained load. As current draw stays high across a long cut, internal cell resistance causes the pack voltage to drop, and the tool's electronics throttle output to stay within operating range. Check the battery contact rails on both the pack and the tool for corrosion or debris — high contact resistance amplifies the sag. Clean the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and re-test; if the pack voltage at load reads below 12V on a multimeter, the cells are fatigued and a replacement pack is the correct fix.

The Kress 144 AFB runs noticeably weaker in cold weather — is the battery damaged?

No damage — Li-ion internal resistance rises significantly below 5°C, which reduces current delivery and causes the tool to feel underpowered. Store the battery indoors at room temperature before use rather than leaving it in a cold van or garage overnight. Bring the pack up to at least 15°C before starting heavy tasks. Performance returns to normal once the cells warm up through normal use.
