Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

LUX-TOOLS A-KS-18Li/25 — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (A-KS-18Li/25)
This is an 18V 3000mAh Li-ion battery pack for LUX-TOOLS cordless power tools using the A-KS-18Li/25 platform. It fits drills, saws, and other 18V handheld tools in that line. Voltage and capacity match the OEM spec exactly — 18V nominal, 3000mAh, 54Wh.
- A-KS-18Li/25 platform fit: Tools on this platform share the same 18V rail, terminal footprint, and BMS communication protocol. Swapping to this pack does not require reconfiguring the charger or tool — the handshake runs the same as the original.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack under simulated drill and circular saw loads. The BMS handled motor-start inrush without tripping, held cell temperature within spec under sustained cutting load, and balanced cells correctly across the full charge cycle.
- Break-in load protocol: On first use, run the tool at half load for two cycles before full-torque applications. This lets the BMS record the motor's inrush current signature and set its overcurrent thresholds before you put the pack under maximum draw.
BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush with drills and circular saws
When you pull the trigger on a saw or drill, the motor draws a spike of current — often three to five times its running draw — in the first fraction of a second. A new BMS that hasn't profiled the motor yet may read that spike as a fault and cut the pack. This is not a defective battery. After one or two full work cycles, the BMS learns the inrush pattern for that specific motor and stops tripping on start. If cutouts continue past the break-in cycles, check the terminal contacts for oxidation — high contact resistance amplifies the apparent inrush spike the BMS sees.
Charger blinking red and refusing to accept the pack after storage
Most 18V chargers on this platform have a lower acceptance threshold around 12–13V. If the pack sat discharged for several months, cell voltage may have dropped below that window and the charger won't start a charge cycle — it just blinks red. Connect the pack to the charger and leave it for 10–15 minutes without removing it. Many chargers on this platform have a trickle-recovery mode that slowly brings cells back to acceptance voltage before switching to full charge. If the pack reaches 14V and the charger still won't engage, check each cell group with a multimeter — one cell group significantly below the others indicates a cell that won't recover.

Frequently Asked Questions
My LUX-TOOLS drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a tough bit — is the battery faulty?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. The motor-start inrush current on a drill under load spikes hard in the first millisecond, and a new BMS that hasn't logged that motor's signature will shut the pack down as a precaution. Run two lighter-load cycles first — the BMS profiles the inrush and raises its trip threshold accordingly. If it still cuts out after break-in, clean the tool's terminal contacts and recheck; dirty contacts add resistance that inflates the inrush reading the BMS sees.
The tool runs fine for the first few minutes of cutting, then slows down and bogs badly — full charge still shows on the indicator.
That's thermal cutoff, not low capacity. Sustained circular saw or drill use builds heat in both the motor and the cells inside the enclosed pack housing. Once cell temperature hits the BMS cutoff point — typically around 60–70°C internally — the pack reduces output current to protect the cells, which the tool reads as low voltage. Remove the pack, let it cool for 10 minutes, and resume. If it happens consistently at the same point in a job, alternate between two packs to give each one recovery time between heavy cuts.
After leaving the A-KS-18Li/25 battery unused for three months, my charger won't recognise it at all — no lights, no charge cycle.
The pack has self-discharged below the charger's acceptance voltage floor, which on most 18V LUX-TOOLS chargers sits around 12–13V. Seat the pack firmly in the charger and leave it connected for at least 15 minutes without interrupting the connection. The charger's recovery trickle-mode will slowly raise cell voltage until it crosses the acceptance threshold, then switch into a normal charge cycle. If the charger still shows no response after 20 minutes, measure total pack voltage with a multimeter — below 10V across the terminals means one or more cell groups have dropped past recovery range.
