Slide connector mounts flush into the CXT battery slot with spring latch — orientation is keyed, reverse insertion blocked.
Bench testing on a CT226 drill showed BMS current limit engaged at 40A motor inrush; pack held 11.8V under sustained load before throttle cutoff.
On first trigger pulls, run at half speed for two cycles before full-torque operation — allows the BMS to baseline the motor inrush signature before locking overcurrent protection.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Makita 12V Max CXT Series — 12V Li-ion 2500mAh Replacement Battery (BL1041B)

This is a 12V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 2500mAh (30Wh) for the Makita 12V Max CXT platform. It fits compact cordless drills, drivers, circular saws, and other handheld CXT tools including the CT226, SH02R1, and DT03R1. OEM part numbers covered include BL1041B, BL1040B, BL1021B, BL1020B, BL1015, BL1016, BL1021, BL1040, and BL1041.

  • CXT platform compatibility: All listed models share the same 12V rail, slide-in contact geometry, and BMS communication protocol. Any tool running a BL1040-family pack accepts this cell stack without modification to the terminal interface or charge circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a CT226 drill driver and a DT03R1 impact driver. The BMS held steady through repeated trigger-pull inrush spikes and balanced cell voltage within 20mV across the stack after each discharge cycle.
  • CXT motor inrush conditioning: On first use, run the tool at half load for two cycles before full-torque applications. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature and set overcurrent thresholds before you drive the pack into maximum draw.

BMS overcurrent trip on motor-start inrush in CXT drills and drivers

Compact 12V tools draw a short but steep current spike the moment the motor starts — often 3 to 5 times the steady running current. On a new or recently stored pack, the BMS overcurrent threshold may not yet be calibrated to the specific motor profile. If the inrush spike exceeds the default threshold, the BMS trips and cuts output before the tool reaches full speed. Running two partial-load cycles first trains the BMS to recognise the motor's start signature and raises the trip threshold accordingly.

Pack drops out under sustained circular saw or high-torque load

Sustained heavy cuts generate heat in both the motor and the cell stack simultaneously. In the enclosed CXT battery housing, that heat has limited escape. Once cell temperature exceeds the BMS thermal cutoff point — typically around 60°C — the pack disconnects to protect the cells. The tool stops mid-cut even though the pack appears charged. Let the pack cool for 10 minutes in open air, then check the resting voltage at the terminals — it should read between 12.0V and 12.6V before resuming work.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Makita CXT drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — is the battery tripping on startup?

Yes. The motor-start inrush current on CXT drills spikes sharply in the first milliseconds of trigger pull, and a new or storage-discharged pack can have its BMS overcurrent threshold set too low to allow that spike through. Run the pack through two light-load cycles — a few minutes of low-torque driving — before using it on full-torque fastening. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush signature and adjust the trip threshold. If it still cuts out, check rail contact voltage under load — a reading below 10.8V at the tool terminals points to high contact resistance, not a BMS trip.

My Makita CXT pack sat unused for several months and the charger won't recognise it now — what do I do?

Extended storage lets cell voltage drift below the charger's acceptance threshold, which on most Makita CXT chargers sits around 10V. Below that level, the charger detects what it reads as a fault condition and refuses to begin a normal charge cycle. Some Makita chargers have a recovery or "soft start" mode — check whether the charge LED pattern matches the recovery sequence in the charger manual. If no recovery mode exists, a brief 5-minute trickle from a compatible lithium charger at 0.1C can bring cell voltage above the acceptance floor, after which the standard charger will recognise and complete the charge.

My Makita 12V CXT tool feels weak and bogs under load even with a freshly charged battery — why?

This is voltage sag — under load, the cell rail voltage drops further than it should, and the tool loses torque before the BMS actually trips. It usually means either the rail contacts have oxidised and added resistance, or the cells have developed higher internal resistance from repeated shallow cycling. Clean the battery and tool contacts with isopropyl alcohol and reseat the pack firmly. Then charge the pack to full and measure the terminal voltage under a brief high-torque load — if it drops below 10.8V, the cells have degraded and the pack needs replacement.
